This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

June 13

9:20 a.m.: Juan Carlos Vargas-Rodriguez, 44, of La Monte, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license. An officer stopped Vargas-Rodriguez’s vehicle at South Harrison Avenue and West 14th Street for speeding. Upon contact with the driver, the officer noticed slurred speech and slow, uncoordinated hand movements. He could also smell the odor of alcohol. He then took Vargas-Rodriguez into custody.

11:55 a.m.: Theresa Miller, 52, of Windsor, received a municipal court summons for a charge of stealing. An officer took a report of theft that occurred at the Municipal Building. The complainant said someone took her tablet and wallet while she was in court. The officer informed her SPD had a report of someone turning in her wallet during court. He watched security camera footage and was able to identify the suspect, Miller. He watched Miller pick up the tablet and the wallet. Miller turned the wallet in at the police station and kept the tablet. The officer was able to contact Miller, and she came to the police station and turned the tablet over. He wrote her a municipal court summons for theft.

3:40 p.m.: Jessica K. Salmons, 29, of the 400 block of North Engineer Avenue, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor stealing. An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a reported theft. He spoke with store asset protection employees, who said Salmons stole about $130 in merchandise. She also reportedly had a glass pipe with white residue in it.

Incidents

June 14

7:30 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of West 10th Street for a report of gunshots. The caller described the suspect vehicle as a dark blue SUV that left the area on West 10th Street. The caller said a passenger in the vehicle driving by his house reached out the window and shot a gun into the air. The caller said the gun was possibly a .22 caliber.

8:30 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to a call of felony stealing in the 3000 block of Keith Allen Drive. The victim came home from work and found someone had broken into her vehicle and stole a firearm and cash. There were no suspects at the time of the report. The property damage will cost $350, and the value of the missing items and cash was $1,260.

8:55 a.m.: A victim and a complainant came to the police station lobby to report the theft of a cellphone worth $1,000. The phone was in a storage cubby at the Centennial Park Pool when it was stolen.
