This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Sedalia Police Department

Arrests

March 8

3:25 p.m.: Jessica A. Brown, 29, of the 800 block of West Fourth Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of stealing. An officer responded to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of shoplifting. He spoke with the complainant and reviewed security camera video, which reportedly showed Brown place several items into a bag without scanning them. She then attempted to leave the store with $72.53 worth of merchandise without paying. The store’s loss prevention team stopped her, and the officer issued a municipal court summons for shoplifting.

March 12

5:25 a.m.: Blake Eugene Bennett, 29, of the 26000 block of Deer Park Road, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. Officers stopped Bennett’s vehicle in the area of Curry Street and West Broadway Boulevard for speeding. They subsequently arrested him on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

7:25 p.m.: James Arthur Burnworth, 38, of the 2100 block of East Broadway Boulevard, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of stealing. Officers responded to a store in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. Burnworth reportedly stole a bottle of alcohol valued at $14.99. The officers located Burnworth and took him to the Pettis County Jail, where he remained pending state charges.

10:20 p.m.: Jaden D. Brady, 23, of the 2200 block of Route H, received a municipal court summons for a charge of stealing. An officer was dispatched to a store in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a theft report. The complainant said he watched security camera footage that showed Brady conceal a bottle of liquor in his jacket. The complainant said Brady left the store without paying for the liquor.

March 12

9:20 a.m.: An officer responded to Bothwell Regional Health Center to meet with the Division of Children’s Services to investigate possible child abuse. The exact location of the possible abuse was unknown. At the time of the report, medical personnel in another city were still examining the children to determine the severity of injuries and possible causes.

5:45 p.m.: An officer took a report in the police station lobby in reference to an identity theft that occurred between 2006 and 2007. The complainant reported someone had used her information at a gas company and were not paying their bills. The gas company informed her she owed $1,767. At the time of the report, the officer had not identified any suspects.

Pettis County Sheriff’s Office

Arrests

March 11

11 a.m.: Thomas Pitts, of Cole Camp, was arrested on charges of delivery of a controlled substance, first-degree trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of a weapon. Sheriff’s Office deputies, Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force detectives and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers served a narcotic search warrant at a residence in the area of Chmelir Road in Pettis County. A search of the residence revealed large amounts of methamphetamine, packaging materials, digital scales, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. While serving the warrant, officers saw Pitts trying to evade law enforcement by climbing out of a bedroom window with evidence. He was taken into custody and has been charged in Pettis County Circuit Court. He was issued a $100,000 bond, cash or surety. He is also being detained on a no-bond probation and parole warrant.

Incidents

March 11

12:10 a.m.: A deputy saw a vehicle with a brake light out traveling north on South Marshall Avenue. After speaking with the driver, the deputy issued a court summons for a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Arrests

March 12

8:30 p.m.: Corey M. Twardoski-Wahe, 21, of Barnhart; Jacob A. Marshall, 21, of Imperial; and Jacob S. Franklin, 22, of Imperial, were each arrested in Saline County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
