This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

May 13

1:40 a.m.: Calvin Wade Comfort, 27, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, felony resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor identity theft. Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South Lamine Avenue for a report of several gunshots. They found two subjects in the 300 block of South Washington Avenue, one of whom provided a false name and fled on foot. The officers tracked and located the suspect with a K9 unit. The suspect, identified as Comfort, was found to have a felony failure to appear warrant from Pettis County. Officers also reportedly found he was in possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia. They were unable to determine anything further about the reported gunshots in the area.

3:30 p.m.: Vicente Maquin-Asig, 21, of the 1600 block of South Vermont Avenue, was arrested on a charge of misusing 911. An officer was dispatched to the 1600 block of South Vermont Avenue for a subject on the phone with 911 who said he needed the police. The officer spoke with Maquin-Asig and learned he didn’t have any problems. Over the next two hours, he called 911 five times without any kind of emergency. The officer later discovered Maquin-Asig was attempting to get deported back to his home country of Guatemala. The officer arrested him on a charge of misuse of 911 and took him to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

9:25 p.m.: Shania Irene Claxton, 22, of the 1400 block of West Main Street, was arrested on charges of felony unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Officers were dispatched to Hubbard Park for a report of gunshots being fired. No injuries were reported from the incident. They spoke with multiple people who said a disturbance had occurred and someone shot a gun several times. Claxton arrived in a vehicle, and witnesses reportedly identified her as the shooter. The officers also found her to be in possession of crack cocaine.

May 14

1:45 a.m. Ryan M. Covington, 19, of the 300 block of West Seventh Street, was arrested on a charge of second-degree domestic assault. An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of West Fourth Street. The complainant had apparent injuries to her lip, neck and hand. Covington had an apparent injury on his wrist. The officer took him into custody.

1:35 p.m.: Angie M. Steeves, 37, of the 1100 block of South Grand Avenue, received a municipal court summons for a charge of trespassing. An officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to a subject trespassing at the residence. The officer spoke with Steeves, who had an active trespass notice for the address. The resident wished to assist in prosecution. The officer arrested Steeves and took her to the police station, where she was later released with a municipal court summons.

Incidents

May 13

12:15 a.m.: Officers responded to the 1900 block of South Lamine Avenue in reference to a burglary. Someone broke into a residence and took items. The items had a value of about $350. A window was also broken, causing an estimated $150 in damage. The officers had not identified suspects at the time of the report.

9:40 a.m.: An officer responded to the 400 block of East Chestnut Street for a report of trespassing. The complainant said the suspect had been warned numerous times not to come onto his property, but she wouldn’t stop. He said he had video of the suspect looking through his windows into his house and walking on his porch. The officer identified the suspect and sent a charge of trespassing to the municipal court prosecutor.

12:25 p.m.: An officer responded to the 700 block of West 11th Street to investigate a reported domestic disturbance. He met with the victim, who said someone she knew assaulted her. The suspect had fled the scene before the officer’s arrival. The Pettis County Ambulance District took the victim to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment. The officer is requesting a charge of third-degree domestic assault against the suspect.

May 14

11:40 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a motel in the 3400 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a domestic disturbance occurring in one of the rooms. The caller said the suspect had left the area on foot. The officer noticed as he spoke with the victim that she had minor injuries.

5:30 p.m.: An officer spoke at the police station with a complainant who wanted to report her vehicle being damaged. She said someone made a long scratch from rear to front on the passenger side of her vehicle earlier in the day. Her vehicle was parked at Smith-Cotton High School. The estimated cost of the damage totaled to $1,000. The officer had no suspects at the time of the report.

Arrests

May 13

1:40 a.m.: Jason B. Vacek, 42, of La Vergne, Tennessee, was arrested in Pettis County on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of prescription pills and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Troopers also served a misdemeanor warrant from Jackson County.

1:50 a.m.: Frank C. Russell, 44, of Clinton, was arrested in Henry County on charges of resisting arrest and not wearing a seat belt.

1:50 a.m.: Deron L. Marshall, 26, of Carrollton, was arrested in Henry County on charges of resisting arrest, failure to display valid license plates, not having insurance and not wearing a seat belt.

6:10 p.m.: George P. Mergener, 78, of Knob Noster, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to register a motor vehicle.
