This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Feb. 28

5:20 p.m.: Gonzalo J. Esqueda, 36, of the 1200 block of South Harrison Avenue, was arrested on charges of second-degree burglary and felony stealing from a building. Officers were dispatched to the area of South Ohio Avenue and West Ninth Street for a subject check. They spoke with Esqueda and identified him as a suspect wanted in connection to a burglary from earlier that day.

May 4

8:35 p.m.: Jordan Gary Hansen, 31, and Helen M. Semande, 20, both of the 200 block of South Stewart Avenue, received municipal court summonses for a charge of assault. An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of South Stewart Avenue for a disturbance call. Two people called and said they were involved in an argument that had turned physical. Both claimed to have been assaulted by the other. The officer arrived and found one of the callers still yelling at people across the street. He spoke with both female callers and several uninvolved witnesses. The witnesses said the male suspect had thrown the first punch, and when someone broke up the original fight, the two suspects chased one of the female callers down the alley and assaulted her again. The officer arrested the male and female suspects at the scene. They were released from the Pettis County Jail with municipal court summonses.

May 5

12:05 a.m.: James I. Smith, 32, of Tipton, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer found Smith had a suspended license after a traffic stop near East 24th Street and South Ingram Avenue. A passenger in the vehicle, Teresa M. Miller, 38, of Tipton, was arrested on two active warrants from Sedalia and Pettis County.

11:20 a.m.: Wayne Fredrick Crump, 67, of the 1300 block of South Osage Avenue, was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree domestic assault. Officers were dispatched to Crump’s residence in reference to a domestic disturbance. They spoke with both people involved and determined Crump had assaulted the female subject. The woman wished to make a written statement about the incident. The officers placed Crump under arrest and took him to Bothwell Regional Health Center before the Pettis County Jail.

10:25 p.m.: John D. Esselman, 40, of the 2400 block of Plaza Avenue, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. Officers arrested Esselman after responding to a disturbance in the 1600 block of Honeysuckle Road.

May 6

1:10 p.m.: John Wayne Archambault Jr., 34, of the 1600 block of East Fourth Street, was arrested on charges of felony unlawful use of a weapon and fourth-degree domestic assault. Officers were dispatched to Archambault’s residence in reference to a medical call. They spoke with several subjects who said Archambault had thrown a stick of rebar at them and swung a broom. The officers spoke with him inside the house. After a brief conversation, they placed him under arrest.

9 p.m.: Nikki L. McCown, 18, of the 6500 block of McVey Road, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Jacob D. Eaton, 19, of the 1800 block of East Broadway Boulevard, received a municipal court summons for a charge of minor in possession of alcohol. An officer conducted an investigative stop on a vehicle in the area of South Washington Avenue and East 19th Street. The vehicle was originally sitting in the middle of South Washington Avenue facing north, and the driver appeared to be sleeping. The officer was walking up to the vehicle when it left the scene, traveling east on East 19th Street. He activated his patrol car lights and initiated a traffic stop. While he was speaking with the occupants, an open container was visible inside the vehicle. A passenger, Eaton, reportedly said the beer bottle was his. The officer asked the driver, McCown, to step out of the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests, on which she did poorly. He arrested her on suspicion of DWI and brought her to the police station, where she provided a breath sample above the legal limit.

May 7

7:10 a.m.: Seth A. Farr, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of felony second-degree assault, felony resisting arrest and first-degree trespassing. The reporting officer was dispatched to the 500 block of North Quincy Avenue for a report of an assault. Another officer said over the police radio that he saw Farr running on West Main Street. The reporting officer chased Farr on foot and placed him under arrest. The two assault complainants had visible injuries to their hands after Farr reportedly struck them with a large piece of wood. The officer discovered Farr also had an active failure to appear warrant from Pettis County.

Incidents

May 4

12:50 p.m.: A complainant came to the police station to report a sexual assault which occurred in the east part of Sedalia sometime within the past year. Two juveniles were assaulted by an adult they know. The reporting officer contacted the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline. The case is under review.

12:50 p.m.: A woman reported someone she knows stole her car. The dispatched officer is sending a copy of the report to the state and national crime databases.

May 5

6:30 p.m.: A store employee came to the police station to report a theft. She said a suspect took items from the store without paying for them on May 2. The reporting person said the suspect left the store and came back to try to return the item for cash. The store’s personnel had warned the suspect on Feb. 7, 2016, not to come back to the business. The store is seeking charges of theft and trespassing.

May 6

1:30 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the emergency room at Bothwell Regional Health Center in reference to an assault that occurred in the 400 block of North Osage Avenue. The victim suffered multiple broken bones in his face, and he was treated and released from Bothwell. The officers identified the suspect, and the incident is under investigation.

9:40 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 2900 block of South Washington Avenue for an assault that reportedly occurred in the 2900 block of James Road. Pettis County Sheriff’s Office deputies were taking a report of their own with the victim and a witness. They informed the officers an accident and an assault occurred on James Road. One of the officers spoke with the victim, who said the suspect had been following him around. He made several turns, and when the suspect continued to follow him, he slowed down to pull over. The suspect reportedly rear-ended him and assaulted him with a metal object. The victim said the suspect left and went to the 2900 block of South Washington Avenue and damaged his property. The officers had not contacted the suspect at the time of the report.

11:40 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of East Sixth Street for a disturbance. They spoke with the reporting person, who said a person she knows assaulted her and her daughter. The suspect left before the officers’ arrival.

Arrests

May 5

1:30 a.m.: Luke Allen Simmons was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. Deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit that started at U.S. Route 50 and South Ingram Avenue in Sedalia. They were attempting to stop the vehicle for several traffic offenses. The pursuit reached a top speed of 30 mph before it came to an end at U.S. Route 50 and Potter Avenue.

Incidents

April 28

5:35 a.m.: A deputy responded to the 2800 block of South Washington Avenue in reference to a reported disturbance. During the investigation, he determined one of the male subjects at the scene was responsible for damages done to the complainant’s vehicle. The subject was released from the scene pending a state charge of second-degree property damage.

May 4

10:35 a.m.: Deputies took a complaint of stealing from a vehicle. The reporting party said his ex-girlfriend stole from his work truck and vandalized the driver-side door. The deputies have identified the suspect, and an investigation is ongoing.

May 4

10:40 p.m.: Naomi F. Wilder, 27, of California, was arrested in Moniteau County on charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to signal and not having insurance.

May 5

2 a.m.: David L. Wiseman, 58, of Windsor, was arrested in Pettis County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

3:50 p.m.: Shelby L. Ailor, 23, of Lincoln, was arrested in Benton County on charges of possession of a controlled substance and registration violation.
