This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Nov. 22

7:45 p.m.: Devin M. Nicholson, 17, of the 1300 block of South Ohio Avenue, was arrested on a charge of stealing from a building. Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of West 11th Street for a burglary report. The complainant said the victim’s house had been broken into and several items were stolen. The complainant was unsure what exactly had been taken except for a weapon. Officers made contact with Nicholson, who voluntarily handed over a weapon believed to have come from the victim’s house. Nicholson reportedly admitted to knowing it was stolen but denied any involvement in stealing it. Nicholson was taken into custody, and he has been charged in Pettis County Circuit Court with felony stealing of a firearm.

Nov. 24

1:30 a.m.: Sergio Soterio, 42, of the 1400 block of West Fourth Street, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. Soterio was arrested following a traffic stop near West Broadway Boulevard and South Carr Avenue.

5:25 a.m.: Clinton M. Kiely, 32, of Columbia, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer stopped Kiely’s vehicle in the area of West Fourth Street and South Moniteau Avenue for failing to yield the right of way. The officer spoke with Kiely and relayed his information to dispatch, which advised he was suspended through the state of Kansas.

9:30 p.m.: Carrie R. Galloway, 35, of the 400 block of South Quincy Avenue was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Carlos E. Staten, 30, of the 400 block of South Quincy Avenue, was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor possession of marijuana. An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of South Quincy Avenue in reference to a possible burglary. He met with one of the suspects, Galloway, who appeared to be under the influence of a drug. She said she had seen people coming out of her residence and asked the officer to check the home. When they opened the front door, the second suspect, Staten, was standing inside. The officer could immediately smell an odor of marijuana. He asked for consent to search the residence and was denied. He obtained a search warrant and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail. The female suspect was later released, and no charges are being sought against her. Staten was placed on 24-hour hold pending state charges.

Nov. 25

12:13 a.m.: Yuriy Matsyokha, 27, of the 2100 block of East Ninth Street, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer stopped Matsyokha in the area of East 16th Street and South New York Avenue for not having a license plate light. A computer check showed he had a suspended license.

12:15 p.m.: Timothy Lee Davis, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. An officer was dispatched to the area of South State Fair Boulevard and West Broadway Boulevard for a report of a subject acting erratically in the middle of the street. The officer arrived and found Davis. He asked Davis if he had anything illegal in his possession, and the subject said he found a syringe on the ground. The officer conducted a search of his person and found a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine.

1:40 a.m.: Jose Rodriguez, 32, of the 1300 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. An officer stopped Rodriguez’s vehicle in the area of West Seventh Street and South Missouri Avenue for defective equipment, improper lane use and failure to use a turn signal. Investigation during the stop revealed Rodriguez was intoxicated and didn’t have a driver’s license.

4:30 p.m.: Justice Chante Azeez, 23, of the 1100 block of East Ninth Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of marijuana. An officer saw a vehicle with expired license plates in a fast food restaurant drive-thru lane. The vehicle was also emitting the odor of marijuana. The officer stopped the vehicle after it left the parking lot and informed Azeez he was going to search her vehicle because of the odor of marijuana. She reportedly admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle. He found and seized a marijuana cigarette and issued her a municipal court summons.

7:55 p.m.: Michael David Rackham, 38, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers were dispatched to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a suspicious person who had been looking into vehicles in the parking lot. The subject, Rackham, left the business after management approached him. Officers found him nearby, and investigation revealed he was in possession of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia.

11:35 p.m.: Malik Antonio Sistrunk, 19, of the 1300 block of Montgomery Circle, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of marijuana. An officer stopped a vehicle that didn’t have a passenger-side brake light in the area of West Ninth Street and South Carr Avenue. The officer spoke with the driver, Sistrunk, and investigation revealed he was in possession of marijuana.

11:55 p.m.: Alexandria Michelle Bates, 33, of Lincoln, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer performed a traffic stop on Bates’ vehicle in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Ohio Avenue after the license plate checked to a different car make. A computer check through dispatch showed Bates had a suspended license.

Nov. 26

12:30 a.m.: Jeffery Francis Knifong, 35, of the 600 block of West Third Street, was arrested on charges of felony resisting arrest, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and second-degree trespassing. Officers were dispatched to the area of West Fourth Street and South Barrett Avenue. A caller said a man and woman were standing at the edge of his property and the man had pulled on the woman. The officers found the two subjects near West Fifth Street and South Barrett Avenue and obtained their information. Dispatch advised the man, Knifong, had an active felony warrant from Pettis County. Knifong ran west on West Fifth Street and then north between houses after hearing he had a warrant over an officer’s radio. The K9 unit was deployed to track Knifong. K9 dog Charlie tracked Knifong to the backyard of the victim’s residence. He was taken into custody, and a search of his person revealed marijuana.

2:30 a.m.: Matthew Thomas Sprinkle, 23, of the 900 block of South Marshall Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. An officer performed a traffic stop on Sprinkle’s vehicle for improper lane use on East Broadway Boulevard near South Garfield Avenue. The officer spoke with Sprinkle, and investigation revealed he was intoxicated.

3:35 a.m.: Robert Scott Applebury, 35, of the 1200 block of East Broadway Boulevard, was arrested on a charge of first-degree trespassing. An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a subject who was refusing to leave. The officer spoke with the subject, Applebury, and asked him to leave several times. Applebury continued to refuse to leave the store. The officer arrested him on a charge of first-degree trespassing.

Nov. 24

9:30 p.m.: Deputies took a report of a stolen red 2003 Honda Ruckus moped from the 500 block of East 36th Street. An investigation is ongoing.

Arrests

Nov. 25

9:55 p.m.: Barry E. Keele, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested in Pettis County on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and not wearing a seat belt. Troopers also served a misdemeanor warrant from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office.

11:55 p.m.: James E. Bailey, 43, of Bolivar, was arrested in Henry County on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked license, failure to register a motor vehicle, not wearing a seat belt and not having proof of insurance.

Nov. 26

1:25 a.m.: Dalton B. Drexler, 21, of Lincoln, was arrested in Benton County on charges of driving while intoxicated, violating a restriction on a driver’s license and speeding.

2:25 p.m.: Clayton A. Briggs, 50, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and violation of ignition interlock device restrictions.
