This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Oct. 13

8:30 p.m.: Alex Jon Gutierrez, 30, of Otterville, received a municipal court summons for charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Gutierrez’s vehicle for expired registration. While speaking with him, the officers detected the odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed Gutierrez was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

9:30 p.m.: Lynn A. Atherly, 46, of Warrensburg, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer stopped Atherly’s vehicle in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Park Avenue because the license plates were expired. A computer check through dispatch revealed her license was suspended.

11:55 p.m.: Dewayne Lee Charles, 19, of the 100 block of Roadrunner Street, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer observed a vehicle driving with no headlights at West 16th Street and South State Fair Boulevard. The officer completed a computer check of the driver, and the results showed he had a suspended license. He also had a failure to appear warrant from Platte County.

Oct. 14

12:50 a.m.: Destiny Lee Shipley, 19, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana. An officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling without headlights or taillights on West Broadway Boulevard near Thompson Boulevard. The officer spoke with the driver and two passengers, and a computer check through dispatch showed one passenger, Shipley, had an active Sedalia municipal warrant for property damage. Further investigation revealed she was also in possession of marijuana.

Oct. 15

4:10 p.m.: Christian Michael Robert Boone, 20, of Lexington, was arrested on charges of third-degree felony domestic assault and property damage. An officer responded to the 600 block of Wilkerson Street for a report of assault. The victim said his grandson punched him in the face. When he went outside, he saw two of his van windows were busted and interior damage to the vehicle. The victim estimated the cost of the damage was $1,000. Boone was arrested, and charges are being submitted to the state prosecutor.

9:45 p.m.: Brandon Keith Vogan, 33, of the 1200 block of South Lafayette Avenue, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. An officer was dispatched to Vogan’s residence and found a subject whom Vogan reportedly had assaulted on the way to the residence. Vogan was also on the scene, and the officer placed him under arrest.

Oct. 16

12:40 a.m.: Erik Matthew Elkins, 39, of the 500 block of West Seventh Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. An officer was dispatched to the area of West 16th Street and South Moniteau Avenue in reference to a suspicious person. The officer found Elkins and checked him for weapons. While checking for weapons, he found drug paraphernalia.

Incidents

Oct. 13

6:35 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Brentwood Drive for a reported theft. The victim said she left her vehicle unlocked and her revolver was missing. The estimated cost of the firearm is $500. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

3:50 p.m.: An officer took a theft report at the police department lobby. The victim said someone used her social security number to open a cable TV account in Longwood, Florida. She received a call from a collection agency saying she owed $800 for the account. Sedalia police will send the report to the Longwood Police Department as an assist agency report.

4:05 p.m.: An officer took a domestic assault report in the police department lobby. The victim said her fiancé assaulted her that morning. She had cuts and bruising on her elbows and the back of her head. The victim said the suspect took the keys to her vehicle and left after assaulting her. When the suspect returned the vehicle, the windshield was damaged. The officer is submitting charges to the state prosecutor for domestic assault and property damage.

8:30 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the emergency room parking lot of Bothwell Regional Hospital for a report of a theft. The victim said she brought her husband to the emergency room about 4 p.m. that day and had been inside since. A witness said she saw a man and a woman in the parking lot sitting close to the victim’s vehicle and acting strangely when she arrived about 8:15 p.m. The victim checked her vehicle and noticed multiple items missing, a gold Western low bow tie, a sterling silver chain with an orange crystal and a gold cross on a chain. The rear-view mirror was also broken off of the windshield.

Oct. 14

7:10 a.m.: An officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle at West 16th Street and South Missouri Avenue for driving without headlights, and he found the driver didn’t have a valid license. The officer is submitting charges against the driver for operating a motor vehicle without a license.

2:25 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of South Engineer Avenue for a report of stealing. Someone had entered the victim’s unlocked car and stolen legal papers. The officer contacted a suspect, but at the time of the report, he wasn’t able to schedule a date to meet the suspect.

Oct. 13

10 a.m.: Ryan M. Schmick, 24, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving and driving with a revoked license.

11:10 p.m.: Dennis A. Kumm, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested in Pettis County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

1:10 a.m.: Hanif A. Williams, 22, of Albany, Indiana, was arrested in Saline County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

1:10 a.m.: Dezmond S. Massey-Masterson, 25, of New Albany, Indiana, was arrested in Saline County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and not having a valid driver’s license.

1:10 a.m.: Morgan R. Bolen, 22, of Albany, Indiana, was arrested in Saline County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

5:11 p.m.: Bennie T. Flaughter, 21, of Barnett, was arrested in Morgan County on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana. Troopers served a felony warrant from Miller County for a charge of possession a controlled substance, as well.

Oct. 14

1:10 a.m.: Brandon L. Berkstresser, 17, of Stover, was arrested in Morgan County on a charge of driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident.

2 p.m.: Boone J. Bax, 33, of Ulman, was arrested in Morgan County on charges of possession of a license plate of another person, not having insurance and not wearing a seat belt. Troopers also served Miller County misdemeanor warrants for failure to register a motor vehicle and not having insurance.

2:05 p.m.: Melanie R. Hodge, 31, of Ulman, was arrested in Morgan County on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, not wearing a seat belt, three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.

Oct. 15

12:35 a.m.: Malik A. Sistrunk, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested in Saline County on charges of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

12:35 a.m.: Hakeem S. Dickson, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested in Saline County on charges of felony possession of ecstasy, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

12:55 a.m.: Jose G. Gonzalez Ayala, 25, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Pettis County on charges of driving while intoxicated and no having a valid operator’s license.
