A suspect is in custody, and another is at large after a burglary at a Sedalia construction site.

Gonzalo Esqueda, 36, of the 300 block of West Seventh Street, was arrested Thursday and has been charged in Pettis County Circuit Court with felony second-degree burglary and felony stealing. The Sedalia Police Department has identified another connected suspect, who has yet to be found, according to a press release.

An SPD officer responded to the 2200 block of East 12th Street on Wednesday in reference to a burglary. The complainants were building a residence on the property and reported more than $1,900 in tools were stolen.

A wallet containing the complainants’ credit and debit cards was also missing. The burglary suspects reportedly used the cards at several businesses in Sedalia, charging $2,189. The total amount lost from the theft is over $4,000.

Officers obtained video from some of the businesses where the suspects used the cards. Through this investigation, they identified Esqueda and the at-large suspect.

Two SPD officers later found Esqueda and brought him to the police department. Detective Jill Green read him his Miranda rights and conducted an interview with him, in which he reportedly confessed to his involvement in the incident.

Esqueda also admitted to an incident in Pettis County involving trespassing, property damage and theft, according to the press release. He is in custody in the Pettis County Jail pending the filing of his charges.

He has been convicted in Pettis County of multiple charges in the past five years, including distribution of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and stealing.

SPD asks anyone with information concerning these incidents to call Green at 660-827-7823 ext. 1213.
