Excessive heat causes Sedalia 200 to reschedule first day of school

School Resource Officer Todd Asbury, a deputy with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, and K9 Cezar have been assigned to the Sedalia School District 200 and will be stationed at Smith-Cotton High School. The duo is seen outside the high school on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 22. K9 Cezar, who joined the sheriff’s office this summer, is certified by the National Police Canine Association in explosives detection, including firearms and ammunition. “Superintendent Todd Fraley and I have worked together in making this a reality, and our memorandum of understanding has been modified to insert this phenomenal asset in said role,” Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders said in a recent Facebook post. “Again, this is a great step towards creating a safer environment for our students!” Photo by Chris Howell | Democrat

Thursday, July 21, the Missouri School Board Association hosted a training session at Smith-Cotton High School. Police officers, fire department personnel, school resource officers and school administrators gathered to share notes and carefully hone plans to deal with any crisis a school might face, from bus accidents to campus shootings. more
