The Healthy U Class of 2018 has collectively lost more than 475 pounds this year and the community is invited to help celebrate at a Night of Inspiration at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at the Smith-Cotton Junior High School auditorium.
Three awards will be presented to Healthy U “graduates.”
The Class of 2019 also will be announced. About 90 people applied and 22 semifinalists were interviewed before the final 12 were selected. They will be paired with board buddies/mentors and nutrition coaches for a year. As with past classes, they will share their journey with the community through media interviews, volunteering, Facebook posts and community events.
Other community components of Healthy U include public cooking demonstrations, Moving 101 events at local fitness facilities and other partnership locations and a Couch to 5K program that will kick off Feb. 21. All of the Moving 101 events and Healthy U activities are free and open to the public.
Healthy U is a project of the Healthy Living Action Group, which includes Bothwell Regional Health Center, Katy Trail Community Health, Pettis County Health Center, Boys and Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri and University of Missouri Extension. HLAG is one of three coalitions formed by the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce Blue Ribbon Health and Wellness Subcommittee.
