This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 12

12:50 p.m. Carlos A. Juarez, 33, of the 4200 block of West Main Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer responded to the 3800 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a subject who had left children unattended in a vehicle. As he was arriving, the vehicle was leaving eastward on Leroy Van Dyke Avenue. He stopped the vehicle and ran the driver’s information through dispatch. Dispatch advised the driver, Juarez, had a suspended license. A licensed driver responded and took custody of the vehicle. The officer issued Juarez a citation at the scene after priority calls came in with more severity.

2:35 p.m.: Sean Sebastian Burke, 47, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault. Officers were dispatched to a business in the 300 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a subject who had been assaulted. Dispatch reported the suspect, Burke, was at the car wash behind the business. The officers spoke with the victim, who had obvious facial injuries. They called the Pettis County Ambulance District to the scene while other officers made contact with Burke behind the business and placed him under arrest.

8:55 p.m.: Timothy P. Cota Jr., 26, of the 400 block of East Sixth Street, was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Vatia L. Hammond, 22, of the 1200 block of East 12th Street, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance in a county jail. An officer observed a vehicle near East Sixth Street and South Lafayette Avenue that had smoke coming out of it. Investigation reportedly revealed the driver, Cota, was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and the passenger was in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. Both were arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail.

Aug. 13

3:50 p.m.: Ashley Ann Stoney, 33, of the 300 block of West 16th Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of stealing. An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of East 16th Street for a report of stealing. He spoke with a complainant, who reportedly witnessed Stoney steal two drinks. The complainant asked Stoney about stealing the drinks, and she denied taking them. The complainant reviewed video footage and confirmed the items were stolen. The officer spoke with Stoney at her residence, and she reportedly admitted to stealing the drinks.

7:45 p.m.: Andre D. Stewart, 24, of the 400 block of Welch Court, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer stopped Stewart’s vehicle in the area of West Fifth Street and South Harrison Avenue after recognizing him as a suspended driver. The officer ran Stewart’s information through dispatch and confirmed his suspended status.

9:10 p.m.: Amanda Hendzel, 24, of the 3100 block of Brianna Boulevard, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. An officer was dispatched to the 3100 block of Brianna Boulevard for a domestic disturbance where he spoke with a male and female subject. Both said they had a verbal argument that escalated. The female subject, Hendzel, had no apparent injuries while the man had an injury on his left arm. The officer found Hendzel to be the primary aggressor and arrested her.

Aug. 14

5:05 am.: Elena Garcia Hickman, 51, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of first-degree trespassing. An officer was dispatched to a business in the 300 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a trespassing. He located Hickman at a neighboring business, from which she had previously been trespassed. The officer took her into custody and placed her on a 24-hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.

Aug. 13

2:45 p.m.: An officer took a report in the police station lobby of property damage. The victim said her vehicle was damaged between 2:45 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. Thursday. She had parked the vehicle in two separate parking lots in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard, but she was unsure in which the damage occurred. The vehicle had a dent with a scratch in it, which the victim estimated would cost between $500 and $1,000 to fix. The officer had no suspects at the time of the report.

Aug. 12

12:45 a.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 1700 block of West Broadway Boulevard for reported counterfeit money. An officer investigated the report and determined the person making a purchase with the counterfeit bill wasn’t doing so with knowledge that the bill was fake. The officer seized the counterfeit bill as evidence. At the time of the report, information indicated the bill might have come from the Missouri State Fair.

7:20 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a store in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. Suspects entered the store earlier in the day about 2:05 p.m. and stole merchandise totaling $41.47 in value. They later came back to the store to return it. The officer has since applied for charges against the suspects.

Arrests

Aug. 12

12:10 a.m.: Patrick Blau, of Buckner, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and speeding. Deputies arrested Blau after a traffic stop in the area of U.S. Route 50 and state Route MM.

8:25 p.m.: Bryan J. Nail, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of third-degree domestic assault. Deputies responded to the 6500 block of Monsees Drive for a physical disturbance and arrested Nail.

9:25 p.m.: Arthur William “Bill” Forst, of Houstonia, was arrested on a charge of third-degree domestic assault. Deputies responded to the 15900 block of Tevebaugh Road in reference to a physical assault in progress. Deputies and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper were on their way to the scene when they learned the suspect, Forst, was attempting to get a firearm. They took Forst into custody.

Aug. 13

11:40 a.m.: A Sedalia resident reported someone entered his vehicle and stole a handgun. An investigation continues.

4:25 p.m.: Charlotte E. Vinson, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested in Benton County on charges of unlawful possession of an amphetamine narcotic, unlawful possession of Xanax and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
