Motorcycle, SUV collide

Two people were injured, one seriously, in an accident involving a motorcycle and an SUV Wednesday in Johnson County.

Jeffrey R. Porter, 29, of Warrensburg, was driving his motorcycle west on Route Y at 12:47 p.m. when he reached an intersection with state Route 13, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. Porter reportedly drove into the path of a southbound SUV, driven by Jeffery M. Mumaw, 34, of Blue Springs.

This caused Mumaw to strike the motorcycle, which overturned and ejected Porter. The motorcycle continued to slide and came to a rest on its side, facing west in the northbound lane of Route 13.

Mumaw’s SUV traveled off the right side of the highway and struck a sign. It came to a rest facing south on the shoulder.

Porter was wearing a helmet and suffered serious injuries. A Life Flight helicopter took him to Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Mumaw was wearing a seat belt during the collision and received minor injuries. He went in a private vehicle to Western Missouri Medical Center.

Man overturns in DWI crash

A Marshall man was arrested after an overturn crash at 9 p.m. Wednesday in Saline County.

Jeremiah J. Thomas, 33, was eastbound on state Route 20 east of Gem Avenue when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. His vehicle struck trees and overturned, coming to a rest on its top.

Thomas was not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. An ambulance took him to Fitzgibbon Hospital for treatment.

Troopers later placed Thomas under arrest on charges of felony fleeing, felony driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, speeding and not wearing a seat belt, according to a highway patrol arrest report. He was placed on hold at the Saline County Jail.

Information is taken from preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol and Sedalia Police Department reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved.
