This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 10

7:35 p.m.: Shawn Michael Steele, 21, of the 1600 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. An officer was dispatched to the area of West 24th Street and South Missouri Avenue for a report of a suspicious couple walking up to houses. He found them near West 20th Street and South Missouri Avenue. Investigation reportedly revealed one of the suspects, Steele, was in possession of methamphetamine.

8 p.m.: Saline Marie Lynn Clarke, 21, and Benjamin E. Brown, both of the 900 block of East 14th Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of marijuana. Officers responded to the 900 block of East 14th Street regarding a 911 hang-up. He verified the hang-up was accidental. While officers were at the residence, they smelled the odor of marijuana. They recovered and seized marijuana inside the residence with the cooperation of the property tenants. The officers issued the suspects municipal court summonses.

Aug. 11

2 a.m.: Larry Ray Cameron Jr., 22, of Lamar, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, exceeding the speed limit and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Josef Wayne Black, 19, was cited for minor in possession of alcohol. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding near South Grand Avenue and West 18th Street. The driver, Cameron, failed to yield to emergency vehicles displaying lights and sirens, as he continued east on West 24th Street before stopping in a driveway. The officers placed Cameron under arrest on a DWI charge and the traffic offenses. They also cited a passenger, Black, on an MIP charge.

3:30 a.m.: Jerome Brandon Mandley Jr., 23, of Jefferson City, was arrested on charges of driving with a revoked license and failure to register annually with the Missouri Department of Revenue. An officer stopped Mandley’s vehicle for improper registration. A computer check showed his license was revoked.

7 p.m.: Lee Allen Volk, 52, of the 500 block of South Warren Avenue, received a municipal court summons on a charge of destruction of non-city property. Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Poplar Place for a report of a physical disturbance. The caller said a group of men were outside her house punching the windows and doors. The men left before the officers’ arrival. Investigation reportedly revealed one of the subjects, Volk, had been responsible for a broken window at the residence. The officers located and interviewed him before issuing a municipal court summons for property damage.

8:10 p.m.: Randy Ray Reed, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of shoplifting and resisting arrest. An officer responded to Thompson Hills Shopping Center. Dispatch advised a suspect fled a store after being confronted about stealing. He located the suspect, Reed, and reportedly found him to be in possession of stolen property. Reed attempted to run away, but the officer apprehended him after a short foot pursuit.

Incidents

Aug. 10

2:25 p.m.: A complainant noticed an iPad Air II was missing from his unlocked vehicle. He used a computer application to pinpoint the location of his iPad. Police searched the 500 block of East 20th Street with the help of area residents but they were unable to find the iPad. The complainant said the appliance has a value of about $800.

7:10 p.m.: A complainant reported someone had entered her property in the 400 block of East Boonville Road and removed several items without permission. The victim valued the missing items at $3,631.92. At the time of the report, the officer had no suspect information.

Aug. 11

2:35 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1600 block of South Montgomery Avenue for a theft report. The caller said someone had taken his 2004 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle from his residence sometime between 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday. The caller said the motorcycle was parked on the sidewalk in front of the residence, and the key was not in the ignition at the time of the theft. The motorcycle has a value of $5,900.

11:35 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Limit Avenue for a disturbance involving about 10 people who possibly had knives and guns. The original caller was reportedly not directly involved but overheard threats of weapons. The officer arrived in the area and found most of the people involved had left the area. He spoke with a juvenile subject, who said he and another minor had been a part of an incident. The juvenile said knives were involved, but no one was assaulted or injured. The officer later located the second juvenile, and a parent claimed someone at the incident had been armed with a handgun. At the time of the report, the officer hadn’t made any arrests, but attempts to review security camera footage from associated businesses were underway.

Arrests

Aug. 10

12:10 p.m.: Matthew Louis Barkacs, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of driving with a revoked license and speeding. Deputies arrested Barkacs during a traffic stop in the area of state Route Y and Hedge Apple Drive. They later released him with a court summons.

11:25 p.m.: Viktor Fedorovich Gorpinich was arrested on charges of fourth-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Deputies responded to the 3900 block of South New York Avenue in reference to a disturbance in progress. While they were en route, the caller told dispatch the suspect, Gorpinich, was waving a knife around. The deputies took him into custody. While they were investigating the incident, the family at the scene reportedly said they believed Gorpinich was going to use the large knife on the deputies.

Aug. 11

1:40 a.m.: Amanda Davis, of Sedalia, was arrested on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated. Jimmie Curry was arrested on a charge of interfering with a felony arrest. Deputies stopped a vehicle in the area of West Seventh Street and U.S. Route 65 for driving the wrong way on a one-way street. The vehicle also had a flat tire, and damage to the tire and rim indicated the driver had been driving with it that way for a long distance. Deputies identified the driver as Davis and took her into custody on a felony DWI charge. During the stop, a passenger, Curry, started to interfere with the deputies’ investigation into Davis. They gave Curry several commands, which he didn’t follow. Curry reportedly became aggressive toward the deputies and got into a fighting stance. He then started to launch toward them. The deputies tased Curry and took him into custody.

5:35 a.m.: Freddie Glenn Naylor, of Sedalia, was arrested on a felony charge of driving with a revoked license. Deputies arrested Naylor during a traffic stop in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard.

Aug. 10

10:50 a.m.: Dennis A. Quisenberry, 56, of Clinton, was arrested in Henry County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Aug. 11

12:20 p.m.: George B. Bilbruck, 31, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Morgan County on charges of not having a personal flotation device and operating a vessel on a lake without a boater’s safety card. Troopers also served two Osage Beach misdemeanor warrants and a Lake Ozark misdemeanor warrant.

4:15 p.m.: John A. Thomas, 46, of Lexington, Illinois, was arrested in Morgan County on charges of boating while intoxicated and operating a personal watercraft in excess of a slow no-wake speed within 50 feet of another vessel.
