This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Sedalia Police Department 

Arrests

April 22

9:10 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of a theft in progress. The officers made contact with the suspect, who had become noncompliant, and detained him. John R. Hicks III, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested for shoplifting. 

11:47 a.m.: Officers looked into a car that looked like one that had been stolen in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard. A computer search revealed the driver had two failure to appear warrants and that the vehicle was stolen. Kasey L. McKay, 30, of Lincoln, was arrested for misdemeanor failure to appear, failure to appear upon arrest or summons, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle. 

1:31 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle failing to make a proper stop at a stop sign on East 16th Street and South Ingram Avenue. The driver consented to a search which revealed a pipe. Christine J. Henson, 56, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia distribution.   

4:48 p.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for the report of a theft. An employee said the suspects left the scene in their vehicle. After locating and stopping the vehicle, an investigation revealed the two subjects had stolen merchandise and one had threatened to stab an employee. James D. Baker, 44, of the 400 block of North Hurley Avenue, was arrested for shoplifting. Freddie G. Naylor, 52, of Tipton, was arrested on charges of shoplifting, misdemeanor fourth-degree assault, and misdemeanor failure to appear. 

5:57 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a domestic disturbance. An investigation revealed one individual had caused injuries to another. Jamika L. Yount, 22, of the 600 block of East Broadway Boulevard, was arrested for felony third-degree domestic assault.

April 18

4:10 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 900 block of West 10th Street for a report of a stolen pistol. The victim said their Beretta pistol had been stolen sometime in the last 30 days while she was away.

April 23

An individual reported his work pick-up truck, a red 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Dually with a trailer and UTV, was stolen from a business in the area of 23600 state Route MM during the night.

Arrests

April 22

8:32 p.m.: David W. Arnold, 50, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failing to drive on the right half of the roadway. 

April 23

1:57 p.m.: Danial E. Vanartsdalen, 36, of Kansas City, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of felony resisting arrest, felony driving while revoked, speeding, and careless and imprudent driving. 

2:49 p.m.: Thomas J. Smith, 40, of Eldon, was arrested in Moniteau County on a charge of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and a felony parole violation warrant. 

9:51 p.m.: Dustin S. Heyer, 43, of Osceola, was arrested in Henry County for driving while intoxicated.
