This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Dec. 12

1:10 a.m.: Nicholas Devon Gibbs, 36, of the 600 block of South Kentucky Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. An officer received a call about a stranded driver at the entrance of 500 Rebar Road. The caller relayed that he thought the driver might have been intoxicated. The officer found the driver, Gibbs, who showed signs of intoxication. He reportedly performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests. The officer brought him to Bothwell Regional Health Center for a blood draw and will send the results to a lab for analysis.

Dec. 14

8:20 p.m.: Stacey Gale Martin, 46, of Warsaw, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of stealing. An officer was dispatched for a theft report at a store in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard. Martin had reportedly taken items out of the store without paying for them. The officer learned she had returned and was inside the store. He located Martin and took her into custody.

9:10 p.m. Angel Escobar, 19, of the 200 block of West Sixth Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of minor in possession of alcohol. An officer issued the summons during a traffic stop in the 1800 block of West Main Street.

Dec. 15

7:10 p.m.: Willie R. Waddell, 50, of Otterville, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. An officer arrested Waddell during a traffic stop in the 1200 block of East Third Street.

7:10 p.m.: Brennan Leon Lomax, 31, of the 800 block of South Vermont Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer stopped Lomax’s vehicle for improper lane use in the 2700 block of West Broadway Boulevard. A computer check showed his license was suspended.

9:10 p.m.: Douglas Earl Thomas, 35, of Otterville, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. An officer found Thomas had a revoked license after conducting an investigative traffic stop on his vehicle.

Dec. 16

3:15 p.m.: Corey T. Owens, 28, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of felony kidnapping, second-degree robbery, felony resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. An officer responded to the 300 block of West Seventh Street for a witnessed kidnapping. Witnesses had detained the suspect at the scene, and the 10-year-old victim had escaped. The suspect, Owens, resisted arrest, and once officers searched him, they reportedly found a knife that belonged to the victim and methamphetamine. They placed Owens on a 24-hour hold at the Pettis County Jail with charges pending. The victim suffered minor injuries during the struggle but was safely returned to her mother after the incident.

Incidents

Dec. 14

9:40 a.m.: An officer responded to the 100 block of South Stewart Avenue for a report of a sex crime against a child that occurred in 2013. The case is under investigation.

7:15 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a shoplifting report. Two suspects entered the store and filled a cart with about 169 items. They were stopped at the door as they attempted to push the cart out and fled before law enforcement arrived. The incident is under investigation.

Dec. 16

12 p.m.: An officer responded to a restaurant in the 2400 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of a theft. The manager reported that a Hispanic man said he left his debit card in his vehicle. The subject left behind his driver’s license when he went to get to his car to get his card. Management said the subject got into his car and drove off. The Texas driver’s license indicated the man was 53 years old, but management guessed the suspect was in his 30s. The man returned to pay for his meal. As the officer went to arrest him for identity theft, he resisted and eluded arrest. Officers still hadn’t found the suspect at the time of the report.

12:45 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Cooper Avenue for a report of a juvenile runaway. The caller said a male juvenile left the house on foot and indicated he wasn’t coming back home. The caller said the juvenile had recently stayed at Royal Oaks Care Facility for suicidal ideations. He left the house wearing a multi-colored sweater, black jogging pants, black Nike shoes and black-rimmed glasses. He was last seen in the area of East St. Louis Street and North Washington Avenue. The officer checked the area and was unable to find the boy at the time of the call.

Arrests

Dec. 14

6:30 p.m.: Balinda R. Burge, 60, of Edwards, was arrested in Benton County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway involving a crash.

10 p.m.: Eujean G. Lohnes, 26, of Kanas City, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated and speeding.

10:45 p.m.: Nicholas W. Dye, 28, of New Bloomfield, was arrested in Moniteau County on charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, not having insurance and not wearing a seat belt.

Dec. 15

12:35 a.m.: Dalton T. Ray, 20, of Olathe, Kansas, was arrested in Johnson County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

2 a.m.: Amanda M. Gruntman, 26, of Knob Noster, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of felony driving while intoxicated, speeding and failure to signal.
