This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

July 6

10:18 a.m.: An officer was passed by a vehicle going northbound on South Kentucky Avenue around West 12th Street and could smell the odor of marijuana coming from it. The officer turned around and initiated a traffic stop on South Moniteau Avenue and West 10th Street. The driver admitted to being in possession of marijuana and where it was in the vehicle. Anthony L. Melton, 30, of the 1300 block of South Kentucky Avenue, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

7:31 p.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard for a license violation. A search of the vehicle revealed three containers with a white crystal substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia items. Christine R. Davis, 33, of Bunceton, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

July 7

3:32 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 1000 block of Thompson Boulevard in reference to a burglary. An officer observed a window that had been broken in an attempt to gain entry. While looking around the building the officer saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle in the area. The vehicle was stopped and the suspects were identified by the victim. Alex C. Matz, 18, of the 600 block of West 15th Street, was arrested for second-degree burglary and second-degree property damage. 

7:27 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business parking lot in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a subject check. Upon arrival, it was determined the suspect was then inside the business causing a disturbance. An investigation revealed the suspect threatened to kill another customer. Kenneth Weiderhold III, 45, of Arizona, was arrested for harassment to frighten and disturb another person. 

8:12 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1900 block of South Park Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance. The officer made contact with the suspect who was running out of the back door of the house. They were placed under arrest for domestic assault and a search revealed they were in possession of a marijuana pipe. After booking the suspect in jail, the officer found a small quantity of marijuana in the back seat of their patrol car. Charles T. Shaver, 33, of the 1900 block of South Park Avenue, was arrested for second-degree domestic assault, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor tampering with physical evidence. 

8:26 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 1300 block of South Carr Avenue in which a man reportedly attempted to stab several victims. Contact was made with the suspect in a nearby residence. He fought with officers while being arrested. Jay John, 23, of the 1300 block of South Carr Avenue, was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest. 

9:46 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the area of West Ninth Street and South Moniteau Avenue for a reported hit-and-run accident. Shortly later, the suspect was located at a business in the 700 block of West 16th Street. An investigation revealed the driver was driving while intoxicated and in the possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana. Kelsey N. Chalfant, 20, of the 1400 block of South Sneed Avenue, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated, left scene/failed to report an accident, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

July 8 

1:29 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business on the 1600 block of East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a subject check. During the investigation, it was discovered the subject had marijuana in their possession. Brian K. Johnson Jr., 31, of the 1300 block of East Boonville Road, was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

July 5

5:40 p.m.: Wesley Z. Ashlock, 50, of Dexter, was arrested in Benton County for felony sex offender present/loiter within 500 feet of a park or playground with pool. 

10:02 p.m.: Michael P. Sipes, 44, of Forest City, was arrested in Benton County for driving while intoxicated, no seatbelt, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

11:19 p.m.: Frank J. Mangiaracina, 32, of Kingsville, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, and speeding. 

July 6

5:23 a.m.: Matthew B. Mathis, 22, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated. 

8:48 p.m.: Kyle S. Norton, 30, of Kansas City, was arrested in Morgan County for an Adrian Police Department misdemeanor warrant and speeding. 

10:31 p.m.: Jesse L. Fowler, 20, of Florence, was arrested in Pettis County for minor visibly intoxicated and no insurance. 

10:43 p.m.: Cole W. Distler, 24, of Jefferson City, was arrested in Morgan County for boating while intoxicated and displaying lights other than prescribed on watercraft. 

July 7

2:32 a.m.: Deondre L. Ross, 26, of Kansas City, was arrested in Pettis County for driving while intoxicated and no insurance.
