This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Sedalia Police Department 

Arrests 

June 25

11:45 a.m.: A business in the 800 block of East Broadway Boulevard reported the theft of merchandise from the business by an employee. Management reported incidents had occurred overnight June 23 and 24. The stolen items were valued at $170. Rebecca D. Rouse, 23, of the 1000 block of East Ninth Street, admitted to the thefts and was arrested for stealing. 

June 28

7:15 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of South Washington Avenue for a disturbance. An investigation revealed a male and female had a verbal argument. Prior to the argument, one party discovered two of their vehicle’s tires had been punctured. Evidence at the scene gave officers probable cause to arrest Richard K. Lines, 50, of the 100 block of Summer Avenue, for destruction of non-city property. 

10:29 p.m.: Officers responded to the 300 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a disturbance. Following an investigation, Jesse R. Smith, 52, of the 700 block of East 15th Street, was arrested for first-degree trespassing. 

June 29

12:49 a.m.: An officer initiated a traffic stop at West Broadway Boulevard and Sunset Drive for speeding. The odor of marijuana was detected from within the car. A probable cause search revealed marijuana, a firearm, and ammunition. Treston D. Clay, 25, of the 500 block of North Quincy Avenue, was arrested for unlawful possession of a concealable weapon and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. 

5:18 a.m.: An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a headlight out and not having license plates. As the driver stepped out for a consent search the officer saw a needle in the driver's-side door pocket. The search revealed a needle with a clear liquid in it that tested positive for methamphetamine. Travis A. Lawson, 34, of the 300 block of North Randolph, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

11:05 a.m.: Officers respond to a business in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a physical disturbance. It was determined the dispute was over a parking complaint and possible vehicle collision. The victim reported they were pushed by the subject. Uber A. Montejo, 38, of the 1000 block of East 17th Street, was arrested for assault. 

7:53 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard for an intoxicated individual who was refusing to leave the premises. The officer tried to get the subject to leave; he refused and was arrested for trespassing. Jail staff asked the suspect to be transported to the hospital to be cleared for confinement. The suspect tried to headbutt, kick, and otherwise assault staff as well as threatening to come after them after he was released. Steven G. Newman, 34, of the 24000 block of John Road, was arrested for first-degree trespassing, misdemeanor resisting arrest, misdemeanor fourth-degree assault, and harassment to frighten or disturb another person. 

June 30 

2:51 a.m.: An officer observed a vehicle eastbound on West 16th Street that matched the description of a van with a revoked driver. The vehicle pulled into a driveway and got out of the vehicle and met the officer at the back of their patrol car. When told to place their hands behind their head the suspect led the officer on a foot chase. After the suspect was apprehended, it was discovered the suspect had ditched marijuana under a car to try to hide it. Byron A. Guilder Jr., 33, of the 1200 block of South Ohio Avenue, was arrested for driving while revoked, resisting arrest, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, concealing a controlled substance in a county jail, and tampering with physical evidence. 

1:48 p.m.: Officers were called to the 1600 block of West 18th Street in reference to a subject tearing off the outside rearview mirrors on the victim’s car. It was discovered the subject had caused property damage inside the vehicle and then to the car. They also pushed the victim off of the porch and into railroad ties and a wooden sign. Nicholas R. Douglas-Vansall, 24, of the 3300 block of Plaza Circle, was arrested for felony third-degree domestic assault and first-degree property damage. 

8:53 p.m.: Sedalia police responded to the 1800 block of South Vermont Avenue. While there cause was developed for the application of a search warrant for the residence, which was granted. Through the search, several controlled substances were seized including methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana. Items were also found that suggested that the occupants of the residence were participating in the sale of said substances. Shannon J. Holm, 44, of the 1800 block of South Vermont Avenue, was arrested for delivery/manufacturing of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Paula E. Hopkins, 44, of the same address, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a county jail, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. 

11:34 p.m.: An officer observed a vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the road, eastbound on Main Street near State Fair Boulevard. While trying to initiate a stop, the vehicle slowed, moved to the right, but pulled directly on the wrong side of the road. After successfully initiating the stop it was discovered the driver had a revoked license and was intoxicated. Martez L. Troy Jr., 33, of the 1200 block of Elm Hills Boulevard, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and driving while revoked.  

July 1

4:36 a.m.: A subject was stopped east of Thompson Boulevard on West Broadway Boulevard for riding on the roadway on a bike without a light and on the wrong side of the roadway. A search revealed a syringe that tested positive for methamphetamine, baggies with methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana. John E. Franken, 39, of Green Ridge, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. 

Incidents

June 25 

3:40 p.m.: A complainant came to SPD to report someone had stolen five boxes of manufactured stone from their business. The stone was taken between June 14 and June 18. 

June 28

3:09 p.m.: An officer responded to the 600 block of South Moniteau Avenue in regards to a theft. The complainant said they spent the night at the residence on June 18 and their Taurus 9mm pistol went missing. 

4:58 p.m.: An officer responded to a business on the 2400 block of West Main Street for a theft. The subject said their 9mm pistol was missing and had been last seen on June 21. There were no suspects at the time of the police report. 

June 29

12:01 a.m.: Dispatch created a call in reference to a disturbance that occurred at a business in the 1200 block of South Limit between 10 and 11:45 p.m. June 28. The victim had met with the suspect to get a stolen firearm back. The firearm was recovered and the suspect then allegedly pulled a silver revolver out. The victim screamed and the suspect ran back into the building. 

11:53 p.m: An officer took a report of a theft in the 1000 block of South Vermont Avenue. The caller said earlier that night someone had stolen a trailer and lawnmower from their property. 

June 30

2:44 p.m.: A complainant reported a burglary in the 100 block of North Missouri Avenue. A chain on a door was broken and two window air conditioners were stolen, valued at $560.94. There was no suspect information at the time of the police report. 

Pettis County Sheriff’s Department

Arrests

June 30

12:38 a.m.: Deputies, a Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force detective, and SPD officers made contact with a male subject in the 200 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The individual was identified to have an outstanding warrant pulling into the location. Virgil Taylo was arrested for a Johnson County warrant. A search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of methamphetamine, digital scales, and new empty baggies. The Pettis County Prosecutor's Office filed a warrant for second-degree trafficking drugs with a $25,000 bond. 

2:20 a.m.: Deputies arrested Angela DeWitt and Larry Evans for fourth-degree domestic assault in the 200 block of Green Street in Smithton. 

6:13 p.m.: Deputies arrested Earnest Lee Brown, of Sedalia, for second-degree burglary and violation of full order of protection.

June 29

10:11 p.m.: Francisco Chavez, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested in Benton County for driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving.
