This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

July 9

12:31 a.m.: A vehicle was stopped for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign on Plaza Avenue. Consent to search was given and methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a controlled substance in the form of a pharmacy pill were located in the vehicle. Wylliam R. Deveney, 29, of the 3000 block of Wing Avenue, and Sean A. Miles, 22, were each arrested for three counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Ronald D. Thompson Jr., 38, of Kansas City, was arrested for three counts of possession of a controlled substance. 

1:24 a.m.: Dispatch received a call about a hit-and-run accident. A witness pulled into the parking lot of a business where an officer was located to tell the officer they had just witnessed a vehicle hit a sign. The vehicle was located and stopped for speeding. An investigation determined the suspect had struck a MoDOT sign just north of West 18th Street on South Limit Avenue on the left side of the road and left the scene. Devyn L. Davis, 18, of the 1700 block of Cypress Lane, was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, careless and imprudent driving and speeding.

7:53 p.m.: Officers made contact with a male subject who was walking around the back side of a business in the 600 block of South Hancock Avenue after business hours. The subject was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a pipe. Dennis L. Dotson, 56, of the 400 block of East Sixth Street, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. 

10:16 p.m.: An officer conducted a vehicle check in the area of East 17th Street and South Hancock Avenue after observing suspicious activity from the occupant. The subject was found to be in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. Victoria C. Brown, 22, of the 600 block of West 20th Street, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

July 10 

12:59 a.m.: Officers made contact with a male subject in the parking lot of a business in the 3400 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The subject was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. Patrick D. Thompson, 28, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. 

Incidents

July 10

12:15 p.m.: An individual came to the Sedalia Police Department to report they had been the victim of a scam call with a total loss of $998.36. The scammer claimed to be with KCP&L and obtained payment by telling the victim they needed to produce payment in the form of a gift card or their power would be shut off.
