This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

June 20 

3:48 a.m.: An officer observed a vehicle run a red light from westbound West Broadway Boulevard onto southbound Thompson Boulevard. A Department of Revenue and warrant check revealed the driver was suspended out of Wyoming. Carl M. Torres, 23, of the 700 block of East 14th Street, was arrested for driving while suspended and failing to stop at a red light. 

June 21

12:02 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of South Woodlawn Drive in reference to a trespassing call. The caller said an occupant of the house’s boyfriend was trying to kick the door in and had been told to leave. The caller said the individual was refusing to leave. Contact was made upon arrival and Charles T. Shaver, 33, of the 1900 block of South Park Avenue, was arrested for trespassing. 

9:55 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of East Morgan Street and North Washington Avenue for a moving violation. The driver was found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Precious A. Cline, 20, of Riverside, was arrested for possession of marijuana, misdemeanor failure to appear, and failure to appear upon arrest or summons. Keiasha M. Jackson, 22, of the 2600 block of Bristol Lane, was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

11:38 p.m.: An officer responded to a call of gunshots in the 600 block of South Lafayette Avenue. The officer spoke to residents in the area who believed the subjects involved had run across the property and were in the bushes behind a business in the 600 block of South Hancock Avenue. The officer checked the area and found a person going through a dumpster behind a business. The officer discovered the individual had a warrant from Pettis County and Sedalia Municipal Court. Small amounts of a controlled substance were also found during a search. Daryan M. Harrison, 23, of the 1800 block of West 11th Street, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor failure to appear, and failure to appear upon arrest or summons. 

June 22

1:51 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a car in the area of Fifth Street and Summit Avenue for multiple traffic violations. The officer could smell the odor of intoxicants from within the vehicle. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and standard sobriety tests were conducted. The driver, Jeffrey S. Sandlin, 39, of the 1100 block of Ware Avenue, did poorly and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.  

6:47 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of East 14th Street for a report of a subject that had been looking into people’s houses. The officer located the subject and later determined they had entered a residence and taken tools from inside. The suspect was also caught in another individual’s yard attempting to steal a bike. Matthew Saunders, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested for first-degree burglary, stealing from a building, second-degree trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, and a warrant. 

9:04 p.m.: Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Harrison Avenue in reference to a disturbance. The caller reported the suspect assaulted them. The caller had visible injuries to their face. Karl L. Buettner, 43, of the 1700 block of South Harrison Avenue, was located and issued a municipal summons for assault. 

9:30 p.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 3500 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a disturbance. A subject was seen assaulting another subject in the area. Officers located the subjects in a parking lot. It was determined Jason R. Vestal, 39, had assaulted the other subject and he was arrested for fourth-degree domestic assault. 

June 24

2:37 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of East 14th Street for a report of gunshots. An investigation revealed two individuals damaged a vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle was located shortly after and three of the four occupants were arrested. Jonathan B. Rogers, 27, of Otterville, was arrested for harassment to disturb or frighten another person, first-degree trespassing, second-degree property damage, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a concealable weapon. Destiny N. Archambault, 20, of the 6500 block of McVey Road, was arrested for harassment to frighten or disturb another person, first-degree trespassing, and second-degree property damage. Nikki McCowen, 19, of the 6500 block of McVey Road, was arrested for purchase/possession of intoxicating liquor by a minor. 

Incidents 

June 18 

10:50 a.m.: A victim came to the SPD and reported they had been scammed out of $1,900 through Facebook Marketplace while trying to purchase a vehicle. They later learned the suspect had “sold” this vehicle approximately 10 times through the scam.

June 19

1:11 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a business in the 800 block of South Limit Avenue in reference to a forgery report. The investigation revealed a male subject attempted to cash a fake check in the amount of $3,250.25. 

June 22

4:05 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of West Second Street for a vehicle fire. An investigation revealed the fire was intentionally set. No arrests had been made at the time of the police report. 

4:58 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a hit-and-run accident. The victim said they were in the entrance/exit of the business waiting to turn onto West Broadway Boulevard when the suspect’s vehicle ran into the rear end of their vehicle. The vehicle then turned around and drove off. 

June 23

10:14 p.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 1600 block of South Limit Avenue in reference to a disturbance. The victim reported that after an altercation with a male, the male’s mother showed up and punched the victim in the head several times. The assailant also attempted to hit the victim’s face with their knee and choked her. The victim had injuries on their neck. The assailant had not been located at the time of the police report.

June 21

11:06 a.m.: Ashley M. Mitchell, 28, of Montrose, was arrested in Henry County for felony driving while revoked or suspended. 

5:25 p.m.: Patrick L. Hieland, 47, of Eugene, was arrested in Moniteau County for a misdemeanor Cole County warrant and operating a vehicle without a commercial license. 

7:40 p.m.: Brent L. Kinzenbaw, 48, of Gravois Mills, was arrested in Morgan County for failure to drive in the right half of the roadway, failure to register a motor vehicle, display plates of another, driving while revoked, and felony driving while intoxicated. 

7:57 p.m.: Preston W. Shepherd, 21, of Pilot Grove, was arrested in Morgan County for a Davies County misdemeanor warrant, a Cooper County misdemeanor warrant, speed, possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

June 23

1:05 a.m.: Timothy R. Barrett, 31, of Windsor, was arrested in Benton County for a misdemeanor Pettis County warrant and failure to affix registration. 

3:09 p.m.: Larry L. Knowles, 49, of Warsaw, was arrested in Benton County for a felony probation and parole warrant, felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. 

5:15 p.m.: Louann L. Goss, 47, of Clinton, was arrested in Henry County for felony second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, and driving while suspended. 

11:07 p.m.: Dustin J. Jackson, 33, of Bates City, was arrested in Benton County for felony third-degree domestic assault.
