This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

June 13 

3:53 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at West Broadway Boulevard at South Warren Avenue for driving 46 mph in a 35 mph zone. A check revealed the driver was suspended. Kyle W. Wiseman, 31, of the 2300 block of East 10th Street, was arrested for driving while suspended, no proof of insurance, and failure to register annually with the Department of Revenue. 

June 14

8:15 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1600 block of West Ninth Street for a disturbance with weapons. Tyler N. Rusk, 26, of the 1600 block of West Ninth Street, was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, felony second-degree assault, possession of a controlled substance, distribution of a narcotic drug, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a concealable weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

June 15

8:14 p.m.: A call came in about a subject that was possibly intoxicated while getting gas at a business in the 1300 block of South Limit Avenue. The subject was stopped at West Main Street and South Limit Avenue. After sobriety tests and officer observations, it was determined the subject was driving while intoxicated. David R. Ewersmann, 27, of Warsaw, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. 

10:19 p.m.: Officers conducted a subject check near East Fifth Street and South Thompson Avenue. One subject was located walking in the street and the second had an open alcohol container. The subjects were found to be in possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and an illegal knife. Samuel A. Bartlett, 35, was arrested for unlawful possession of an illegal weapon and Jessica K. Wissman, 34, was arrested for possession of a synthetic narcotic and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

June 16 

2:04 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West 11th Street in reference to a disturbance. Investigation revealed a male had assaulted another individual and prevented them from leaving the residence. They also contacted someone for assistance. Dexter E. Cramer, 24, of the 700 block of West 11th Street, was arrested for second-degree domestic assault and tampering with a victim-witness in felony prosecution. 

1:40 p.m.: An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for no front plate near South Limit Avenue and Heck Avenue. There was an odor of marijuana from the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed marijuana. Blaine R. Boersma, 23, of the 22000 block of Smasal Road, was arrested for possession of marijuana. 

1:49 p.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a theft. An employee said two subjects came into the store and stole $292 worth of items. Melissa S. Franken, 35, of Sedalia, was arrested for shoplifting. 

11:57 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at a business in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard. An investigation revealed a male subject was in possession of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia. John A. Rickerson, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. 

Incidents

June 14

2:55 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1300 block of West 32nd Street for a theft. During the investigation it was reported that a motor home parked on the property had the side door forced open and several items stolen from inside. The value of the property stolen and damage was around $650. There was no suspect information at the time of the police report. 

10:28 p.m.: An individual reported their car was stolen form the area of Vermont Park. They said their 1999 Kia Spectra was parked on West 14th Street when a subject entered their vehicle and fled the area with it. The vehicle was valued at $1,000. On the morning of June 14 the vehicle, burned on Hall Road, was recovered by Pettis County Sheriff’s Office deputies. 

June 15

10:59 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of West Seventh Street in reference to a 911 hang up. A male reported an individual would not leave their residence and hung up on dispatch. Upon arrival, there were obvious signs of a disturbance in the parking lot. The victim reported they were choked by the suspect and had visible marks on their neck and arms. The suspect had not been located at the time of the police report. 

1:30 p.m.: The Sedalia Fire Department, Pettis County Ambulance District, and SPD responded to the 500 block of East 13th Street for a house fire. When officers arrived heavy smoke and fire conditions were present and a neighboring residence was sustaining damage from the intense heat. The occupants were out of the residence and accounted for. Firefighters had the fire under control within minutes and prevented any further damage to the neighboring residence. The residence that was on fire was a total loss. Firefighters later located two dogs inside the rear portion of the residence, alive, and removed them. One other dog did not survive. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents. 

8:15 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1000 block of West Second Street in reference to property damage. The caller said they saw two juveniles leaving his property that had been damaged. More than $1,000 in damage was done. 

June 16

10:01 a.m.: A victim reported a theft from their property in the 800 block of South Marshall Avenue. They reported a set of four aftermarket chrome/aluminum wheels and tires valued at $1,000 had been stolen from a yellow 2005 Ford F250 parked at the property.

Arrests 

June 14

3:50 p.m.: Sarah E. Calvin, 22, of Lee’s Summit, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor warrant out of Jackson County. 

10:47 p.m.: Randy D. Casey, 66, of Lincoln, was arrested in Benton County for driving while intoxicated and failing to signal. 

June 15 

2:20 a.m.: Jarrod W. Hobbs, 21, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, speeding, and excess window tint. 

11:47 p.m.: Padilla R. Quiles, 58, of California, was arrested in Moniteau County for driving while intoxicated and driving while suspended. 

June 16

1:00 a.m.: Christopher L. Herron, 35, of Osceola, was arrested in Henry County for speeding and a felony Benton County warrant. 

12:48 p.m.: Robert Brown, 66, of Independence, was arrested in Henry County for felony driving while revoked and a felony warrant out of Benton County. 

9:16 p.m.: Quinn A. Sherfey, 20, of Kansas City, was arrested in Moniteau County for speeding, minor visibly intoxicated, no insurance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana, and felony possession of a controlled substance.
