This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

March 1

10:59 a.m.: Levi Grant Markes, 28, of the 400 block of West Fifth Street, was arrested in the 900 block of East 16th Street, on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a revoked license. A traffic stop was conducted for a vehicle with expired registration. During the investigation, it was discovered the driver had a revoked license. As the driver was searched, a small amount of methamphetamine and a syringe were found in his pocket. A search of the vehicle found additional drug paraphernalia.

4:23 p.m.: Gary Lee Gaines, 50, of the 4900 block of Vernon Road, was arrested near the intersection of South Grand Avenue and West 11th Street on a charge of driving with a suspended license. A traffic stop was conducted for a vehicle with a driver known to have a suspended license. During the stop, the driver’s identity and suspension were confirmed.

March 2

2:36 a.m.: Travis Eugene Ballew, 39, of the 1200 block of West 11th Street, was arrested at his residence on charges of third-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance. Officers located the victim on the floor bleeding from a laceration to the upper eye and complaining of chest pain from being kicked and punched. During the investigation, it was determined Ballew, who is known to the victim, had assaulted the victim by punching and kicking him. 

4:33 a.m.: Donny L. Merriman, 33, of Sedalia, was arrested in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard on charges of stealing and possession of drug paraphernalia. An officer responded to a business for a shoplifting report. Contact was made with the suspect, who failed to pay for some merchandise and attempted to leave the store. During a search of his person, drug paraphernalia was found.

12:12 p.m.: Ryan Matthew Nelson, 24, of Sedalia, was arrested near the intersection of Herold Avenue and West 11th Street on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. A Cooper County warrant and a Pettis County warrant were also served. Jessica J. Henderson, 27, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. A traffic stop was conducted for a vehicle that had an unreadable license plate due to dirt. During the stop, the officer learned the two occupants had active warrants. They were arrested and searched, which revealed both subjects were in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. 

Incidents

March 2

10:06 a.m.: A victim reported they received a phone call from someone who claimed to be with the Social Security Office and that the victim was being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Agency. When requested, the victim provided his social security number. After talking with friends, he suspected he was scammed and reported the incident to his bank and police.

Arrests

March 1

4:30 p.m.: Gregory Naylor was arrested in the 3000 block of West 16th Street on a charge of driving with a suspended license. Deputies had conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation.

March 2

8:36 p.m.: Christopher Boles was arrested near the intersection of state Route M and Echo Road on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Arrests

March 1

10:23 p.m.: Justin G. Haskell, 45, of Odessa, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of failure to stop at a red light, driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia. Troopers also served a felony Douglas County, Kansas, warrant.

March 2

2:50 a.m.: Matthew A. Oehrke, 18, of Stover, was arrested in Morgan County on charges of driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving, no insurance and no seat belt.

3:10 a.m.: Amy D. Greer, 47, of Adrain, was arrested in Henry County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

11:07 p.m.: Julie K. See, 53, of Centerview, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the road and no insurance.

March 3

2:42 a.m.: Stefan C. Western, 26, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, failure to yield at an intersection and failure to affix license plates.

1:04 p.m.: Justice L. Pulver, 31, of Saratoga Springs,  New York, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), felony possession of a controlled substance within a jail facility, possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

10:27 p.m.: John L. Ritter, 71, of Cole Camp, was arrested in Benton County on a charge of removal of manufacturer’s number from vehicle.

10:36 p.m.: Kenneth R. Reith, 47, of Marshall, was arrested in Saline County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

March 4

4:09 p.m.: Bradley W. Clark, 36, of Lebanon, was arrested in Benton County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance (prescription narcotics), possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
