This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

April 30 

8 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3100 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. An employee said $499.67 was stolen from the business from January to April. The suspect admitted to the charges. Echo S. Scarborough, 19, of the 200 block of East 27th Street, was arrested for misdemeanor failure to appear and stealing. 

May 7 

7:41 p.m.: Officers conducted a warrant check behind a residence in the 1100 block of South Massachusetts Avenue. The suspect was arrested for a Pettis County warrant for third-degree child molestation with a $75,000 bond. A probable cause search of his vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia. Scott E. Pritchett, 37, of the 600 block of East 16th Street, was arrested for a warrant, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. 

May 8 

12:29 a.m.: Officers responded to the 200 block of West Sixth Street for a domestic disturbance. An investigation revealed the suspect had threatened the victim with a kitchen knife. Magen R. Read, 32, of the 200 block of West Sixth Street was arrested for second-degree domestic assault. 

8:22 p.m.: An officer performed a traffic stop in the area of East Fifth Street and South New York Avenue on a vehicle due to the officer recognizing the passenger as having a Sedalia municipal warrant. Dispatch confirmed their warrant and an investigation revealed the driver was in possession of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia. Brett M. Hocking, 27, of the 1700 block of East Fifth Street, was arrested for failure to appear upon arrest or summons, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

May 9 

7:02 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, employees said they had made contact with the suspect inside the store. They had escorted the suspect to the back of the store when they were questioned. Nicole R. Chumpraphai, 41, of the 2000 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested for shoplifting. 

May 10 

2:58 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 900 block of North William Parkhurst for the report of a threat being made. The officer met with the caller who said the suspect had called their customer service and threatened to blow up the building and shoot their employees. The suspect, Sean S. Burke, 47, of the 600 block of South Lafayette Avenue, was later located at his residence and arrested for felony terror threat-making. 

5:23 p.m.: An officer recognized the driver of a vehicle as someone without a valid drivers license. The officer conducted a traffic stop on West 15th Street at South Kentucky Avenue and confirmed the driver did not have a valid license. Byron A. Guider Jr., 33, of the 1200 block of South Ohio Avenue, was arrested for driving while suspended/revoked. 

May 11

9:15 p.m.: An officer was on patrol in the area of East Ninth Street and South Marshall Avenue when they were flagged down by someone reporting a disturbance. Investigation revealed both parties involved had struck each other, causing minor injuries. Heather D. Franken, 30, of the 600 block of East 13th Street, was arrested for felony third-degree domestic assault. 

12:26 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a business on West Seventh Street in regards to a theft. Management said an individual had stolen a $1.36 snack cake. The thief, Jackie D. Gresham, of the 300 block of Prospect Avenue, was located and admitted to the theft. He was arrested for shoplifting. 

May 12

11:41 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of West 32nd Street and Clinton Road for speeding. A pistol was located during a consented search and it was determined the driver was prohibited from possessing a firearm. Amanda S. Higginbotham, 39, of the 24000 block of Smasal Road, was arrested for unlawful possession of a concealable weapon. 

Incidents

May 5

9:24 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1800 block of West Fifth Street for a burglary report. The victim said that between 5 p.m. May 7 and 9 a.m. May 8, someone entered the building and stole a tablet and a notebook with a combined value of $475. An unknown amount of cash was also taken from the cash drawer. 

10:04 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1400 block of Liberty Park Boulevard in reference to a theft. The victim said they had noticed a man in distress walking in the street. They let the man in long enough for him to use the phone and then he left. Shortly after, the victim realized their bottle of medication was missing. The suspect had not been located at the time of the report. 

May 8 

7:07 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of North Missouri Avenue for a property damage report. The caller said when they arrived at work that morning they noticed broken glass on the floor of the break room area. They found two medium-sized rocks on the floor of the room. Three windows on the south had holes in them which appeared to have been caused by the rocks. Estimated damages totaled roughly $1,000. 

May 9 

12:07 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 2800 block of West Broadway Boulevard to check on a firearm that was possibly stolen from another jurisdiction. After making contact with the staff, information confirmed the firearm was stolen. The entry was confirmed and the gun was placed on a hold. 

11:26 p.m.: Officers responded to the 800 block of West Third Street in reference to a hit-and-run collision. The victim said their vehicle had significant rear-end damage and red paint on the rear driver side. There were no witnesses, but the victim said they heard a loud “boom” and when they stepped outside they saw a red truck driving away. There were no suspects at the time of the report. 

May 10 

8:27 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Prospect Avenue for a report of two vehicles driving down the road with subjects shooting at each other. Due to the close proximity to Horace Mann Elementary, dispatch was asked to contact them and inform them of the situation. Both vehicles had left the area by the time SPD arrived. Statements were gathered from witnesses. They were later contacted by the subject who was being shot at who said they were being followed by a maroon van when he heard a gunshot come from the van. The victim did not know the suspect who was shooting at him. 

8:35 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Second Street in reference to a burglary. The victim said their house had been burglarized between April 30 and May 9. They reported that roughly $1,500 worth of tools were stolen. There were no suspects at the time of the report. 

4:33 p.m.: Officers responded to the area of Broadway Boulevard and Ingram Avenue in reference to a vehicle accident. The victim and passenger explained that they rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection. The driver of that vehicle got out, assaulted the passenger in the striking vehicle, and fled the scene without providing information. The driver that left was identified through investigation and state charges are being requested. 

8:49 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of East 11th Street in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the suspects. One said they had been involved in an altercation with their son. Both parties had minor injuries and said they were struck by each other. The male suspect elected to leave for the night. 

May 11

2:58 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 2500 block of Albert Lee Avenue in reference to a burglary. The victim said once they had returned home, the front door of their house had been kicked in and was standing open. The victim said the only thing missing was a fireproof lockbox that contained money and personal documents. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

May 11

1:34 a.m.: Joseph C. Kramer, 28, of California, was arrested in Moniteau County for driving while intoxicated and failing to drive on the right half of the roadway. 

10:18 a.m.: Richard L. Hunt, 35, of Lee’s Summit, was arrested in Johnson County for felony possession of a controlled substance and excessive window tint. 

10:18 a.m.: Victoria A. Solomon, 28, of Lee’s Summit, was arrested in Johnson County for felony possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. 

9:29 p.m.: Etta J. Lewis, 57, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and a lane violation. 

May 12

5:53 p.m.: Gene M. Potter, 45, of Knob Noster, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and no seat belt. 

11:04 p.m.: Gordon D. Jefferson, 26, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, speeding over 26 mph, and no seat belt.
