This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Nov. 12

8:50 p.m.: Shareese D. Harper, 24, of the 700 block of McVey Road, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of marijuana. An officer observed a car with a headlight out on South Kentucky Avenue approaching West Broadway Boulevard. He stopped the vehicle and reportedly smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the glove compartment. Once a backup officer arrived, he took each occupant out of the vehicle and conducted a probable cause search of their person and the car. The search reportedly revealed marijuana in the vehicle.

Nov. 16

1:45 p.m.: Samuel J. Peritz, 53, of the 1300 block of South Ohio Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer stopped Peritz’s vehicle in the area of South Osage Avenue and West Main Street for not displaying license plates. Dispatch found Peritz had a suspended license through the State of Arizona.

5:10 p.m.: Diane L. Hoskins, 51, of the 1300 block of East 24th Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of stealing. Officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a shoplifting report. The investigation reportedly revealed Hoskins stole $146.29 in merchandise by placing items in her purse and pockets and by failing to scan larger items.

11:55 p.m.: Sierra D. Breining, 26, of the 2400 block of North Woodlawn Drive, was arrested on a charge of forgery. An officer stopped Breining’s vehicle north of Tiger Pride Boulevard on South Limit Avenue for improper registration. After investigation, he found the tags on the license plate had reportedly been forged.  

Nov. 17

1:30 a.m.: Dennis S. Schirlls, 47, of the 700 block of East 15th Street, was arrested on charges of second-degree property damage, misdemeanor peace disturbance and second-degree trespassing. Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West 16th Street for a subject reportedly trying to enter into the front of the residence. Pettis County deputies arrived on scene with SPD officers, and they located a male subject, Schirlls, on the front porch. He yelled at the officers to leave because it was his house. Schirlls was visibly intoxicated and refused to identify himself. The officers took him into custody and brought him to Bothwell Regional Health Center where he was deemed fit for confinement. He remained in custody at the Pettis County Jail until reaching sobriety.

7:45 p.m.: Nicholas A. Howe, 31, of the 1000 block of East Seventh Street, was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, failure to register annually with the Department of Revenue and failure to maintain financial responsibility. An officer stopped Howe’s vehicle near East Fifth Street and South Hancock Avenue. Through investigation at the scene, the officer arrested Howe on multiple traffic violations and three active warrants from Pettis County.

Nov. 18

12:20 a.m.: Trenton S. Webb, 21, of the 1500 block of East Fourth Street, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of marijuana. An officer stopped Webb while he was walking east on East Fourth Street between South Porter Avenue and South New York Avenue. The officer performed a computer check of his information through dispatch. Further investigation reportedly revealed he was in possession of marijuana.

Nov. 16

6:25 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 900 block of West Third Street in reference to a property damage and theft report. The caller said a former tenant damaged property and stole items from his unit after being evicted. The officer is submitting charges to the City of Sedalia prosecutor.

Nov. 17

3:50 a.m.: An officer spoke with a victim of an assault that took place in Liberty Park. The victim reported a known suspect assaulted her, causing a black eye and body pain. The officer hasn’t located the suspect, but he is requesting state charges.

Nov. 18

1:05 p.m.: Trysten S. Green, 22, of Tipton, was arrested in Morgan County on a felony charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash.
