This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Sept. 11 

5:50 p.m.: Justice K. Workman, 19, of the 700 block of East 13th Street, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of stealing. An officer was dispatched to a store in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. Management reported a theft involving a store employee. After further investigation, the officer took Workman into custody. Workman reportedly admitted to taking money from the store on multiple occasions in September while working.

Sept. 17

12:40 p.m.: April L. Demoss, 42, of Leavenworth, Kansas, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. An officer saw Demoss’s vehicle stalled on westbound East Broadway Boulevard between South Ingram Avenue and South Massachusetts Avenue. A check of Demoss’s information showed she had a suspended Kansas license.

9:15 p.m.: William Harrison Howe III, 28, of the 400 block of New York Avenue, received a municipal court summons for a charge of animals running at large. An officer was dispatched to Buckner Court for an animal complaint. The complainant said Howe had allowed his dogs to run around the street while not on a leash. The complainant wished to pursue charges. Howe was released with a municipal court summons. 

Sept. 18 

11:55 a.m.: Kelly R. Powen, 54, was arrested on charges of displaying an unlawful license plate on a vehicle and driving with a revoked license. An officer observed Powen driving with no front license plate and saw the rear license plate expired in 2011. He stopped her vehicle in the area of East Fourth Street and South Massachusetts Avenue. Powen said she had a suspended license and warrant for her arrest. A computer check through dispatch showed she had a revoked license and a Pettis County warrant. 

Sept. 19

1:45 a.m.: Talitha Mae Parkhurst, 22, of the 1700 block of South Moniteau Avenue, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree assault. Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Moniteau Avenue for a report of assault. The reporting person said a person she knew had assaulted her. The officer noticed the reporting person had injuries to her face and right eye. The Pettis County Ambulance District took her to Bothwell Regional Health Center. 

Incidents 

Sept. 17 

2:05 p.m.: A woman reported a theft from her vehicle in the 600 block of East 14th Street. Someone broke the window of her vehicle, causing $300 in damage, and stole about $2,806 worth of items from inside.

Sept. 18

8:40 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a warrant check. Dispatch advised the subject had been seen in a garage with his father and another man. Officers located the subject with the warrant and arrested him. After being taken into custody, he wanted to report his girlfriend had assaulted him the day before. He had a black eye and said it came from her punching him. The subject said he didn’t want to report the domestic assault when it happened because of his warrant. At the time of the report, the officers hadn’t yet spoken with the suspect.

Sept. 15

11:40 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 4000 block of Lake Shore Drive in reference to a reported disturbance. During the investigation, they arrested and later released a male subject pending a state charge of domestic assault.
