Sedalia man hurt in rear-end collision

A Sedalia man was hurt in Johnson County in a rear-end collision Thursday.

Lonnie L. Hummel, 53, was westbound on U.S. Route 50 at 12:38 p.m. when another vehicle overtook and struck the rear of his car near Northwest 271st Road, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The second driver, Levi S. Turley, 22, of Odessa, was unhurt in the collision. Hummel sustained minor injuries and went in an ambulance to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts during the accident.

Car strikes horse

Two people were hurt after striking a horse on a Henry County roadway at 10:50 p.m. Thursday.

Louis A. Schofield, 26, of Warrensburg, was driving west on state Route 7 east of Highway W when he struck the horse, which was on the road, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report. His vehicle then traveled off the street and came to a rest in a field.

Neither Schofield nor a passenger, Alissa M. Bearce, 23, of Warrensburg, was wearing a seat belt. Schofield suffered moderate injuries while Bearce had minor wounds.

An ambulance from Golden Valley Memorial Hospital took Bearce to the Clinton Medical Center. A Life Flight helicopter flew Schofield to Kansas City where he received treatment at Research Medical Center.
