Sorosis hosts opening luncheon

The Heard Memorial Club House hosted the Sorosis’ opening luncheon and program on Sept. 16.

President Mary Wood greeted approximately thirty-two members and guests in attendance.

The luncheon prayer was given by Susan Rouchka. Table of Five catered the meal with a variety of pastas, meats, and sauces, dinner rolls, Caesar salad and parmesan cheese. A raspberry vanilla cake decorated for the 130th birthday of Sorosis provided dessert.

Sorosis was founded in 1889 by eight young ladies as a study club that would meet on a regular basis. In celebration of this day Dr. Becky Imhauser presented a living history portraying Mrs. T.P. McCluney, the fourth Sorosis Club president.

After the luncheon and the program Wood conducted a brief business meeting. Treasurer Stacey Beard presented the financial report on the checking, savings, and expenditures.

Board President Marty Graves presented an update on the ongoing restoration projects of the home. The new steps to the front entrance are complete along with new handrails. The walnut front doors have been refinished and the windows have been professionally cleaned. Mud jacking was applied to the area of the west entrance.

Beard painted the inside of the foyer and new window blinds have been installed in the breakfast room. Our gratitude and thanks to our contractors Ramey Concrete, Andrew Treuner and Mickey Paul.

The past Sorosis presidents’ photos have been placed in a collage made by Bruce Palmer and the original photos have been added to a president’s album with their biographies on the reverse side.

Della Cline vintage clothing chair reported they have completed the inventory and cataloguing of forty vintage hats during summer recess. There is also a new male mannequin named “Jacob” and he is wearing an 1860’s suit belonging to the great-grandfather of board trustee Bruce Palmer.
