The Daughters of Isabella

The Daughters of Isabella met Sept. 13 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Chancellor Shirley Harms read about the Sixth Commandment and reminded us about the Life Chain from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 on U.S. Highway 50 at the Walmart parking lot. Twelve officers were present, and two were excused. August’s minutes were approved as written.  Treasurer Joyce Grinstead reported the finances. The Daughters received a note from Shirley Collin’s family for the funeral masses and a transfer of membership from St. Joseph’s circle that disbanded. The nine ladies’ information is included in the members that get mail documents.  Quarterly Reports were provided.

Jean Gallagher reported on recent and future Catholic trips she has planned. A trip by charter motorcoach to attend "Oliver" at the Capital City Productions dinner theater in Jefferson City on Aug. 21 began with a tour of St. Joseph's church in Westphalia. Upcoming trips with Fr. Joe Corel to Eureka Springs on Oct. 22 and 23 plus a trip to Branson on Dec. 3 were discussed.  Two planned Catholic spring trips were also mentioned. She also passed out an extensive list of her planned trips for 2021-22.

This evening’s food was brought by Joyce Wiltz, Loretta Kendrick, and Katy Hodges. Next month, Susan Sanderson, Connie Thompson, Lu Canon, and Shirley Harms will bring the treats and make the desserts for our Birthday Celebration at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Knights’ Hall in Sedalia.

In November, Tina Mattingly is the committee chair. Loretta Kendrick and Lu Canon volunteered to help her with refreshments. There will be no December meeting.

Birthright still needs volunteers. There was a National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children Ecumenical Prayer Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Antioch Fellowship Hall at 507 W. 24th St.

November is the next Community Café. Mary Jo Ballenger will contact everyone by email.  September’s Community Café served approximately 40.

The State Convention is canceled. The baskets are being donated to Sacred Heart’s bazaar.  Linda Hoffmann suggested that the ladies bring gently used items for a white elephant or rummage sale after the meeting in October.

The October Birthday Party will be at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Knights’ Hall. Everyone should bring a side dish. Each member may bring one guest. Remember that the Daughters will be collecting money to pay the dues for members that are in the nursing home.

This is an election year for the circle. Susan Sanderson asked Mary Bahner to remain as secretary for another two years. Ann Dove, financial secretary, and Joyce Grinstead, treasurer, both have served four years and must be replaced. Chancellor Shirley Harms agreed to another term. Banner Bearer Loretta Kendrick and Guides Katy Hodges and Sherry Young all agreed to another term. Custodian Linda Korte and Auditors Jean Gallagher and Margaret Ellenbracht also agreed to stay in office.

Five members have not paid their dues. Mary Bahner will send a final collection notice.

Ann Dove reported the income. Margaret Ellenbracht moved that we pay our bills, and Jean Gallagher seconded the motion. Motion carried. The Daughters has 63 members.

The obligation was said followed by a recitation of the closing prayer and closing ode. The flag was retired with refreshments following. The next event will be Oct. 11. The social committee for October is Susan Sanderson, Connie Thompson, Lu Canon, and Shirley Harms.

Dresden 4-H Club

The Dresden 4-H Club held its annual hot dog roast meeting Sunday, Sept. 19 at Sharon Bruner’s home. The meeting was called to order by Reagan Sneed, president, at 5 p.m. with seven members, four guests, and two leaders present.

American and 4-H pledges were led by Phillip Jones and Rhett Sneed, and membership roll call was the following question: “What was your favorite activity for the summer?”

Members presented what they did over the summer with their different projects. Laney Pace and Tinlee Jones worked with their steers and rode horses. Phillip Jones rode his horse some and helped his sisters with their steers. Reagan and Rhett Sneed went to the Hereford Jr. Nationals, where they showed their heifers and participated in some contests, including a Pen Pen Group where they met different people from other states and did activities with them.

They also worked their steers and heifers for the county show and Missouri State Fair. Rhett’s heifer had a baby, and he is in the process of negotiating with his grandpa to buy it. Samuel Dehan took part in Clover Kids Day at the 4-H Building during the Missouri State Fair. He took his guitar poster and talked with a State 4-H Council person about it. He also participated in the Pettis County Achievement Day event with two posters and a caterpillar he made.

Eli Dehan worked with his five heifers and steers and attended several shows with them: Charolais Junior Nationals Conference and Show, Missouri Cattlemen’s Show, Pettis County Jr. Livestock Show, Morgan County Show and Missouri State Fair shows. At the Missouri State Fair, he placed fourth out of 66 in Junior Showmanship. He entered his photos in the Charolais Jr. Nationals, Pettis County Achievement Days, and Missouri Cattlemen’s and did well with them.

Under New Business, Saturday, Oct. 2 is United Way Day of Action. 4-H’ers need to call the Extension Office to let them know if they can help. The 4-H yearly Project Record Forms were handed out and are due Sept. 30. To receive a 4-H pin, members need to complete one. 4-H week is Oct. 3-9, 2021. Rhett made a motion to put the Dresden 4-H Window Display up at Crown Power in LaMonte, and the motion was seconded by Eli Dehan. Motion passed. Members are to get their display items to Sharon or Kay by Friday, Oct. 1.

Service projects for the year were discussed. The motion was seconded by Phillip Jones, and the motion passed.

The motion was seconded by Phillip Jones, and the motion passed. Membership and snack/activity/demonstration forms were posted for everyone to sign up so the club leaders have information to plan meetings.
