COVID-19 continues to skyrocket in Pettis County

Pettis County added 101 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 7,607, according to the Pettis County Health Center. 

“The (Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services) website is reporting Pettis County has a positivity rate of 9.5% for the past seven days which is an increase from 7.6% for the last week with PCR testing,” the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing stated on Monday.   “The locally calculated positivity rate for the week of Nov. 1-7 was 11.31%. The case count per 100,000 for this time period is 236.1/100,000. This week there were 537 PCR tests and 353 antigen tests for a total of 890. Last week there were 959 tests.”

According to the Pettis County Health Center, from Nov. 5-11, the groups with the highest number of new cases were 13-18-year-olds with 23, 5-12-year-olds with 16 and 0-4-year-olds with 11. The next closest age group was 40-44-year-olds with nine. There were 50 individuals birth to 18 with positive cases reported in the week time period. Since July 1, 23.51% of total cases are in individuals 0-18 years of age, which is an increase from the 22.4% reported last week.

“The vaccine breakthrough rates for the week of Nov. 8-14 is 18 out of 101, which is 17.8% or 82.2% not vaccinated,” the briefing said. “There were three cases in February, March, April and June. There were two positive cases in partially vaccinated individuals. There were two positives in people receiving the booster dose.”

As of Friday, there were 943 hospitalized in Missouri as compared to 941 hospitalized with COVID last week. There are 236 people in ICU and 137 on ventilators as compared to 221 people in ICU and 134 on ventilators last week.

There are eight individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to three last week. There are zero patients on a ventilator.

The DHSS website reports 105 deaths in Pettis County as compared to 104 last week.

Approximately 43.2% of the population of Pettis County residents have started vaccination.   According to the state website, 18,274 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 16,441 are considered fully vaccinated, which is approximately 38.8% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 56.7% have started vaccination and 50.3% fully vaccinated. The state is reporting 68.3% of the population over 18 has started and 61.1% are fully vaccinated. For Pettis County, 54.5% of the population 18 and over have started vaccination (17,392) and 49.3% (15,722) are fully vaccinated. According to the DHSS website, 11.6% (875) of 5-17-year-olds have started vaccination and 9.5% (718) are fully vaccinated. This is a new age category. For the 65 and over age group, 75.8% (5,488) have started vaccination and 69.7% (5,049) are considered fully vaccinated.

The majority of doses of vaccine given last week continue to be third or booster doses of Pfizer and Moderna.

Vaccines are available at AFC Urgent Care, some local pharmacies, at many community events as well as Katy Trail Community Health, Bothwell Regional Health Center and Pettis County Health Center.  All vaccines are free.

Booster doses of Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available for designated individuals, particularly those 65 years of age or older. A full list of eligible individuals is available online and by calling the Health Center.

The Pfizer vaccine has been approved for children 5 to 11 years of age. Parents who have questions should check with their child’s health care provider to receive answers about the vaccine and see if the vaccine is available at the health care provider’s office and right for their child. The Health Center is providing vaccines for children age five years and older.

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics on from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays, and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays. First doses are available as well as second doses and third/booster doses.

Bothwell is now administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children aged five to 11. People who want the vaccine for their child in that age group can make appointments at Bothwell TLC Pediatrics from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday by calling 660-829-5852 or 660-829-8888.

Bothwell provides monoclonal antibody infusion treatment for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and who have had onset of symptoms within the last 10 days. Monoclonal antibody infusion can help the body fight off COVID-19 and reduce the risk of severe illness or hospitalization.

The infusion treatment is administered on the hospital’s second floor from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The medication is free, and an administration fee will be charged.

COVID-19 testing is offered at Bothwell Walk-In Clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. People must register for a testing appointment by calling 660.827.7900. Upon arrival at the Walk-In Clinic, people should check-in by calling 660.827.7900 and remain in their car until they receive a phone call to go inside the clinic.

This week’s COVID-19 vaccine clinics are from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 (Pfizer) and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 (Moderna) on the second floor of the Bothwell Healing Arts Center. People may walk in; however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app.
