Man killed in Johnson County wreck

One fatality is reported from a two-vehicle wreck June 7 on Highway 13 at Southeast 300 Road. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the wreck occurred when a 1985 Honda motorcycle, driven by James Slavens, 52, of Lee’s Summit, traveled into the path of and was struck by a 2019 Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by James Chapman Jr., 44, of Fort Scott, Kansas.

Slavens was pronounced dead by Johnson County Coroner Clark Holdren. 

Slavens is reported to have not worn a safety device. Chapman is reported to have worn a safety device.

The Kenworth is reported to have extensive damage. The Honda is reported to be a total loss. 

The MSHP was assisted by the Warrensburg Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

This was the 23rd fatal wreck in Troop A this year.
