Benton accident kills one, injures five 

One person was killed and five were injured at 4:55 p.m. May 7 in a Benton County accident. 

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, a 2014 Chrysler 200 driven by Ramteja Mudiyala, 28, of Overland Park, Kansas, was westbound on Highway 7 near Majorville Road and attempted to pass another vehicle on a hill. A 2002 Chevrolet 1500 traveling west driven by Jacob A. Ruggles, 31, of Ash Grove, attempted to avoid striking the Chrysler and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The Chrysler attempted to avoid striking the Chevrolet and traveled off the left side of the roadway, causing both vehicles to strike each other.

Kranthi Sareddy, 24, of Overland Park, Kansas, an occupant in the Chrysler who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Benton County Coroner W. Miller.

Mudiyala was wearing a seat belt and was transported to University Hospital in Columbia by air ambulance with serious injuries. 

Jyothi R. Dondapati, 22, of Overland Park, Kansas, an occupant in the Chrysler, was wearing a seat belt and was transported to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach by EMS with moderate injuries. Karumdi Harshvardhan, 22, of Overland Park, Kansas, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. Luke's in Kansas City by air ambulance with serious injuries. 

Jacob Ruggles was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to University Hospital in Columbia by air ambulance with serious injuries. Kailey A. Ruggles, 27, of Ash Grove, was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to St. Luke's in Kansas City by air ambulance with serious injuries. 

Warrensburg motorcyclist in serious condition after crash

Ronald B. Cowan, 70, of Warrensburg, sustained serious injuries at 6:56 p.m. Tuesday in a Johnson County accident. 

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Cowan was turning off Highway 13 near Simpson Drive when he struck the rear of a 2009 Ford driven by Joyce F. Dorrell, 51, of Warrensburg. Cowan was not wearing a helmet and was transported to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg by Johnson County Ambulance District.
