Degrees conferred for 2021 UCM spring graduates

WARRENSBURG — As was done in December, the University of Central Missouri hosted 10 commencement ceremonies for spring and summer 2021 graduates.

About 1,940 undergraduate and graduate students crossed the stage May 7-9 in the Multipurpose Building.

This commencement is the first during the year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the university’s founding in 1871.

“On May 10, 1871, UCM officially opened its doors to students as the State Normal School for the second normal district,” Board of Governors President Stephen Abney said. “Since then we have had a long tradition of students realize their career goals. We are proud of our faculty, our staff who, throughout history, have shown their resilience and persevered to keep higher education moving forward at this university. We owe a debt of gratitude for this commitment and dedication of our UCM community members who continually look for ways to turn obstacles into opportunities for students in order to make higher education thrive on this campus. This has been especially true this year of pandemic as we deeply appreciate all the efforts that made it possible to celebrate your graduation.”

UCM postponed and later canceled spring 2020 commencement due to the pandemic and later implemented restrictions and increased the number of ceremonies for fall 2020 commencement.

The university continued to implement the same guidelines for spring 2021.

Recordings of the ceremonies can be found at ucmo.edu/gradlive.
