Fourth of July events planned across region

With the Fourth of July approaching, central Missouri has a weekend's worth of cost-friendly and firework-filled events for you and your family.

Sedalia

Sedalia Parks and Recreation will be hosting their family-friendly Firecracker Mile at Liberty Park on Friday, July 4. Check in at 7 a.m. and the run begins at 8 a.m. Kids cost $15 and ages 13+ cost $25. 1 Mile Novice Run, 1 Mile Family Run, & Kids 40 yard dash. Prizes are awarded to top finishers in each male/female age group for Open and Novice. All 1-mile runners will receive a finisher’s medal.

Kick off your 4th of July at Sedalia Parks and Recreation’s Patriotic Parade starting in Downtown Sedalia from 10 to 11 a.m. This year's theme is “Stars, Stripes, & Summer Fun.” Enter your floats for free by contacting the Parks Office. Prizes will be awarded to the Most Patriotic, Most Original, and Most Creative float.

Make a splash at our Star Spangled Swim. Swimming is half price and FREE for military and veterans with an ID. Join Sedalia at the Liberty Pool from 11 a.m.. to 5 p.m.. on Friday, July 4.

Bring your family out for a picnic in the park at Liberty Park, 1500 W. 3rd Street, on Friday, July 4, at 11 a.m.. Free hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be provided to the first 500 people. There will also be bounce houses and a live band.

The Missouri State Fairgrounds will be hosting their annual firework show on Friday, July 4, at 9:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and finish off your evening with some fireworks.

Tipton

On July 3, Tipton will host their annual firework display at their city park, 104 Wade Blvd. The show will be from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. The lake shelter house and baseball field will be roped off for safety precautions.

The 43rd annual ice cream social will be held July 4 at Maclay Home, 209 W. Howard. Tours of historic 1858 home, 10-12, veterans tour free on the 4th. Program including Civil War reenactors battle begins at 11 with cannon firing at noon. Food served from Carriage House 11-2. Free Will Donations. More information - 660-433-2068

Warsaw

The City of Warsaw will be hosting a Drake Harbor Firework Celebration on July 5, at dusk, at 181 W Harrison St. Bring your lawn chairs and mark your calendars for this one-of-a-kind spectacular fireworks show overlooking the Osage Arm of Lake of the Ozarks at Drake Harbor.

In addition to the Drake Harbor display, five local establishments will host shows for the public to attend, all starting at dusk:

On July 3, Cody’s Bait & Tackle at 31046 Cold Spring Ave.

On July 4, The American Legion at 32739 MM Hwy.

On July 5, Osage Bluff Marina at 17393 Osage Bluff Rd.

On July 12, Rick’s Oar House Marina at 25842 Old Oar House Rd.

The Kaysinger Pioneer Bluff Heritage Association, 29027 Visitor Center RD, will host an 1800s Independence Day celebration July 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lincoln

Lincoln R-2 School District will be hosting a day full of events for Friday, July 4. Join them at “Lincoln’s Greatest Show” from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Lincoln City Park.

Kid's Mud Run begins at 10 a.m. at Hare Park. Pickleball registration and rules from 11 a.m. and the tournament starting at noon. A carnival with an inflatable waterslide and obstacle course, and concessions will be available at noon at the baseball field.

Four free wacky olympic games will take place at 12:45, 1:45, 2:45 and 3:45 p.m.. A cornhole tournament will take place beginning at 4:45 p.m. with a fundraiser dinner from 6 to 9:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. a live performance by Brandon Ward will begin.

The night of the 4th, the City of Lincoln will do a firework display at the city park, visible anywhere in Lincoln.

Green Ridge

The annual Kurtfest will be hosted Saturday, July 12 at 31649 S. Hinken Road in Green Ridge. Gates open at 4 p.m. The event will include food and drink vendors, live music, Kurtfest T-shirts and other merchandise for sale.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs. The evening will end with a fireworks display. The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for school-age kids. VIP parking is $20 per car.

Stover

On Saturday, July 5, Dale Hollow Winery will host their annual Independence Day celebration at 314 E 1st St in Stover from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jackson Fischer will be on stage for live music, a food truck will be onsite, and as always, fireworks at dusk.

Knob Noster/Whiteman Air Force Base

The 509th Force Support Squadron will host their annual free Independence Celebration: Red, White, and Boom. on Thursday, July 3, at Ike Skelton Lake. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with fireworks starting at dusk and is open to anyone with base access.

The free activities include a rock wall, bungee pods, a petting zoo, bounce houses, a foam party with a DJ, and giant bubble stations. For an additional fee, attendees will have access to concessions, a vendor fair, camel rides, a beer garden and photos with a Kangaroo or Wallaby.
