Around 11:30 p.m. Friday, Pettis County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home invasion with injury on Redbud Circle, just southwest of the Sedalia city limits.

“It did appear that there was one male individual that had entered the garage and was confronted by the homeowner,” Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders said Monday. “He proceeded to assault the homeowner, causing some serious damage to her forehead. She's got a couple of black eyes, he kind of attacked her and then left.”

A manhunt ensued involving the sheriff’s office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol and its helicopter.

Anders had teams combing the golf community and surrounding neighborhoods until 3 a.m. Saturday but the suspect evaded capture.

“The next day we got up in the morning and started canvassing in the area just to identify additional witnesses,” said Anders, “and located two more burglaries shortly thereafter. They found evidence inside one of those, the homeowner was out of town, that the suspect had entered the home.”

Evidence was recovered from that burglary on Locust Lane, and it was determined the suspect had also stolen a vehicle. Law enforcement was able to track the vehicle using the OnStar system and an attempted traffic stop soon turned into a high-speed pursuit where the driver wound up ramming into a citizen’s vehicle causing damage and minor injuries.

“We chased him all the way over to the north side, where we finally got OnStar to shut the vehicle down,” Anders said. “He fled on foot, we called (K9) Cav and Deputy Moore out to track the suspect. Deputy Chancellor was able to locate the suspect, but he turned out to not be the suspect from the home invasion.”

This suspect was arrested with multiple charges pending for tampering, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, and felony resisting arrest, among others.

During the interview with the suspect of the burglary/auto theft, it was learned he knew the suspect in the home invasion.

Law enforcement does not have the name of the individual involved in the home invasion yet, but indicated they had “pretty strong leads.”

Anders said the investigation is still underway and due to its “sensitive nature,” some information cannot be released; he hopes people understand.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect in this home invasion is encouraged to contact the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office at 660-827-0052.
