Health care agencies continue to offer COVID vaccines, testing

As of Aug. 16, there are a total of 6,237 cases of COVID-19 in Pettis County, according to the Pettis County Health Center.

According to the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing issued Monday, this is an increase of 173 cases in the past week and 357 cases in the past two weeks.

There are 21 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to 25 last week. There are three patients on a ventilator. The age range for the hospitalized is 34 to 95. 

The DHSS website now reports 82 deaths in Pettis County, up from 81 last week. There have been 10 deaths of Pettis County residents reported since July 11 attributed to COVID. 

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website is reporting Pettis County has a positive rate of 16.8% for the past seven days as compared to 18.5% last week with PCR testing. There were 889 PCR tests and 523 antigen tests in the past seven days. 

“Based on analysis of local data, there were 58 positive cases in June and 601 positive cases in July which was an increase of 938%,” the briefing said. “In the cumulative count from July 1 to Aug. 16, there have been 968 positive cases reported. Of those cases, 143 cases which is 19.01% of cases are in the 0-18 age range.”

The case counts by age are posted on the Pettis County Health Center website and Facebook page for Aug. 5 to 11, which is the time frame data reporting is more complete. Age 0 to 4, 12 cases; 5 to 12, 11 cases; 13 to 18, 18 cases; 19 to 24, 18 cases; 25 to 29, 14 cases; 30 to 34, 11 cases; 35 to 39, 17 cases; 40 to 44, 11 cases; 45 to 49, six cases; 50 to 54, 16 cases; 55 to 59, 17 cases; 60 to 64, 10 cases; 65 to 69, seven cases; 70 to 74, five cases; 75 to 79, 3 cases; 80+, four cases.

Free COVID testing is available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23 at the Missouri State Fairgrounds VIP tent.

Pettis County has now vaccinated approximately 37% of the population with at least one dose.   According to the briefing, the state website lists 15,656 Pettis County residents have received one dose and 13,184 are considered fully vaccinated, which is approximately 31.1% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 50.2% with at least one dose and 43.1% fully vaccinated. The state is reporting 61.2% of the population over 18 has at least one dose of vaccine and 52.9% are fully vaccinated. For Pettis County, 49.1% of the population 18+ has at least one dose and 41.3% are fully vaccinated. There are 881 of an estimated 3,457 12- to 17-year-olds who have started vaccination, which is 25.4%, and 333 or 9.6% are fully vaccinated. This week 677 doses of vaccine were given compared to 631 doses of vaccine were given to Pettis County residents last week.

Vaccines are available at AFC Urgent Care, some local pharmacies, at many community events as well as Katy Trail Community Health, Bothwell and Pettis County Health Center. All vaccines are free.

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Starting Thursday, Aug. 19 vaccinations will be available from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays. First doses are available as well as second doses for those unable to make their second dose appointment. Register at 660-827-1130 but appointments are not required.

Bothwell offers drive-thru COVID-19 testing at its Healing Arts Center at 3700 W. 10th St. in Sedalia. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Before arriving at the testing site, people must register by calling 660-827-7900.   

People with COVID symptoms may see a provider in the Walk In Clinic to see if a rapid test is recommended. People should remain in their car and call 660-827-7900 to check in. 

Bothwell will offer Pfizer from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Wednesday, Aug. 18 at Bothwell Healing Arts Center. People may walk in, however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app. 

Walk in from 7 a.m. to 7  p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays at the Bothwell Walk In Clinic.

Bothwell, Katy Trail Community Health and Pettis County Health Center staff will administer Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 12-21 at the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. 

Katy Trail Community Health is offering free vaccine and free testing at its Sedalia site, 821 Westwood Drive. Vaccines are also available at locations in Warsaw, Versailles, and Marshall. Go to www.katytrailcommunityhealth.org or call 877-733-5824 for more information.
