A Winter Weather Advisory is slated to go into effect at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, for Pettis County.
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the alert will run until 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10.
Mixed precipitation is expected for Sedalia, with accumulations up to three inches and a light glaze of ice.
The alert comes as the region continues to thaw out from the Winter Storm Warning that brought approximately 6.5 inches of snow to Sedalia on Sunday, Jan. 5 into Monday, Jan. 6.
All area school districts remain out of school on Thursday, Jan. 9. Sedalia 200 initially planned to return, but canceled on Thursday morning.
The forecasted high for Thursday is 35 degrees, with a low of 26. A southwest wind of 8 to 13 mph is expected, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Wind chills could be in single digits.
The snow is expected to arrive between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., with patchy fog also anticipated.
The snow will end by Friday morning. Friday’s high is expected to be near 29, with a north wind of six to nine mph
The advisory runs down into the Arkansas border, before transitioning into a winter storm warning.
The system is expected to span down into Texas, where the most significant snowfall is expected.
There is no further precipitation expected after Thursday night.
