Bothwell ENT Hearing Instrument Specialist Gerald Young recently assisted Sedalia residents Clyde and Beatrice Jobson obtain the gift of sound once again.
Young helped the Jobsons in applying and qualifying for the Help America Hear Program, a nonprofit organization that helps provide new, high-quality hearing instruments nationwide to men, women and children with limited financial resources. The Jobsons applied to Help America Hear to assist with their purchase of hearing aids. They were approved for ReSound hearing aids.
“We started coming to Gerald about a year ago because Beatrice was having a lot of trouble hearing and the hearing aids kept falling out,” Clyde said. “We couldn’t afford good hearing aids.”
During their appointments, Young discovered Beatrice had an ear infection in her right ear causing hearing trouble.
“Beatrice had a 70% loss of hearing in her right ear and a 38% loss in her left,” Young said. “Clyde had been using poor-quality hearing instruments for years.”
The Jobsons have been married for 70 years and have lived in west central Missouri all their lives. They have three children, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Young hopes to help serve others in the community by providing opportunities from the Help America Hear Program for those with limited finances and a need for high-quality hearing instruments.
“People who meet the criteria go through an application process based on several factors including income, insurance, assets and the level of need,” Young said. “Approved applicants are eligible to receive two hearing instruments, custom ear molds and one-year limited service.”
