New physician joins Bothwell Regional Health Center

Dalton Lohsandt, MD, a board-certified family medicine physician, has joined the Bothwell Regional Health Center medical team and will provide primary care and sports medicine for adults and children.

Dr. Lohsandt received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at University of Missouri-Columbia, earned his medical degree from Mizzou’s School of Medicine and completed a Family Medicine residency at University of Missouri Health Care. During his last year of residency, Dr. Lohsandt was recognized as the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians Outstanding Resident Physician.

Dr. Lohsandt said he chose medicine because it combines a desire to help people and his fascination with the science of the human body.

“Family medicine was the perfect choice as I enjoy the variety of clinical medicine and seeing individuals of all ages,” he said. “Each day is a new challenge because you never know what a patient may present with. Family medicine allows me to care for patients throughout their lives and their families for generations.”

Following residency, Dr. Lohsandt extended his training and completed a one-year Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at University of Alabama. While there, he also served as a team physician, providing care for athletes in clinic and on the sidelines.

“I pursued additional training in sports medicine after residency because I enjoy helping active individuals get back to what they enjoy doing,” he said. “Whether that is a young child, an athlete, a weekend warrior, an older individual recovering from an injury or someone who wants to be active for the first time.”

Dr. Lohsandt grew up on a farm near Wellington, Missouri, and said living in a rural area helps him easily relate to his patients.

“I am passionate about living and working alongside my patients,” he said. “Small-town Missouri is filled with some of the hardest working, kindest and most caring individuals. I look forward to getting to know people and the stories they share that provide a deeper understanding of how we can work together to reach their health goals.”

Marvin Smoot, Bothwell’s Clinic Operations vice president, said Dr. Lohsandt is no stranger to Bothwell and brings exceptional leadership skills and passion for innovation in health care to the organization.

“Dr. Lohsandt did two rotations at Bothwell while he was in medical school,” he said. “We are excited he wanted to return as a full-time physician and look forward to the impact he’s going to make. His energy and passion for professional and community involvement and his family and sports medicine experience make him an incredible asset. He and his family are committed to being here and caring for our people in the area for the long-term.”

As a family medicine physician, Dr. Lohsandt values the importance of building relationships with his patients.

“I put an emphasis on listening to my patients' priorities and their concerns,” he said. “This allows me to discover what’s important to them and how I can best serve them. I want my patients to know they can trust me to provide them with effective and efficient medical care. I’m open to discussing any concerns my patients have in a respectful and confidential manner and will be an advocate for their health, as well as a resource for our community.”

Dr. Lohsandt will see patients at Bothwell Family Medicine on the third floor of the Healing Arts Center at 3700 W. 10th St. in Sedalia beginning Aug. 7. To make an appointment, call the clinic at 660.829.8811 or Centralized Scheduling at 660.829.8888.
