Over 6,000 COVID-19 cases reported in Pettis County

As of Aug. 9, there are a total of 6,064 cases of COVID-19 in Pettis County, according to the Pettis County Health Center, an increase of 184 cases in the past week and 383 in the past two weeks. 

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reports Pettis County has a positivity rate of 18.5% for the past seven days as compared to 18.2% last week with PCR testing. There were 852 PCR tests and 491 antigen tests in the past seven days.  

“Due to a delay in reporting data, local numbers are not available for this week,” states the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing issued Monday. The graph of the age distribution for July 1 to Aug. 2 will be posted on the Pettis County Health Center website. 

Free COVID testing will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9 at the VIP Tent on the Missouri State Fairgrounds, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16 at the Thompson Hills Shopping Center, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23 on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. 

“As of Friday, there were 2,136 people hospitalized in Missouri as compared to 1,385 people hospitalized in Missouri with COVID last week,” the briefing said. “There are 626 people in ICU and 353 on the ventilator.”

There are 25 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to 14 last week. All the ICU beds are occupied by individuals with COVID and seven are on a ventilator. 

The age range for the hospitalized is 34 to 95. Of the 25 hospitalized patients, four reported being fully vaccinated. 

The DHSS website now reports 81 deaths in Pettis County, up from 79 last week.

Pettis County has now vaccinated approximately 36% of the population with at least one dose.   According to the state website, 15,230 Pettis County residents have received one dose and 12,857 are considered fully vaccinated, which is approximately 30.4% of the population. 

“Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 49.3% with at least one dose and 42.1% fully vaccinated. The state is reporting 60.2% of the population over 18 has at least one dose of vaccine and 51.9% are fully vaccinated,” the briefing stated. “For Pettis County, 47.8% of the population 18+ has at least one dose and 40.8% are fully vaccinated. This week 631 doses of vaccine were given compared to 570 doses of vaccine were given to Pettis County residents last week.” 

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays. First doses are available as well as second doses for those unable to make their second dose appointment. Register by calling 660-827-1130, but appointments are not required.

Bothwell offers drive-thru COVID-19 testing at its Healing Arts Center at 3700 W. 10th St. in Sedalia. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Before arriving, people must register by calling 660-827-7900. 

Only standard PCR tests will be given in drive-thru testing. People with COVID symptoms may see a provider by appointment in the walk in Clinic to see if a rapid test is recommended.  

Bothwell will offer the following one- and two-dose Pfizer clinics: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Bothwell Healing Arts Center and 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 at Bothwell Truman Lake in Warsaw.

People may walk in; however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app.  

Walk in from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays at the Bothwell walk in Clinic.

Bothwell, Katy Trail Community Health and Pettis County Health Center will also administer Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines at the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fairgrounds from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 12 to 21.

Katy Trail Community Health is offering free vaccine and free testing at the Sedalia site, 821 Westwood Drive. The vaccine is also available at Warsaw, Versailles, and Marshall sites. Go to www.katytrailcommunityhealth.org or call 877-733-5824 for more information.

The DHSS reported a seven-day total of 13,110 confirmed cases for an average of 1,873 per day. There were a total of 36 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Missouri during the last seven days, representing an average of five deaths per day. There were a total of 89,442 vaccinations, representing an average of 12,775 per day.
