Pettis County adds nearly 200 COVID cases

Pettis County added 180 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 5,681, according to the Pettis County Health Center. 

According to the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing issued Monday, as of Friday, July 23, there were 1,682 people hospitalized in Missouri compared to 859 people hospitalized two weeks ago with COVID.

The briefing states 17 people are hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center, including one on a ventilator. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website reports 77 deaths in Pettis County, however, the Health Center received reports of one death in the past week, according to the briefing. This brings the total to four deaths in the past two weeks.

“The DHSS website is reporting Pettis County has a positivity rate of 19.7% for the past seven days as compared to 16.8% last week with PCR testing,” the briefing states. “There were 563 PCR tests and 419 antigen tests in the past seven days.” 

“Since July 1, the highest rate of new cases is in people 19-24 years of age. There were 63 new cases in children 18 years of age and younger,” the report continued. 

The briefing stated a Monday report from DHSS indicated the presence of the Delta variant in all Sedalia sewersheds. 

“The most recent data indicated 100% of the sample from the north sample was Delta,” the briefing continued.  

Pettis County has now vaccinated 34% of the population with at least one dose. According to the briefing, the state website lists 14,395 Pettis County residents have received one dose and 12,452 are considered fully vaccinated, which is approximately 29.4% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 47.2% with at least one dose and 40.8% fully vaccinated. 

“The state is reporting 57.9% of the population over 18 has at least one dose of vaccine and 50.5% are fully vaccinated,” the briefing states. “For Pettis County, 45.2% of the population 18+ has at least one dose and 39.1% are fully vaccinated. Approximately 7% of the 12-17-year-olds in Pettis County are fully vaccinated. This week 530 doses of vaccine were given compared to 430 doses of vaccine were given to Pettis County residents last week.”

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays. First doses are available as well as second doses for those unable to make their second dose appointment. Call 660-827-1130 to register, but appointments are not required.

Bothwell will offer Pfizer dose one and two from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 28 at Bothwell Internal Medicine and from 2 to 4 p.m. July 29 at Bothwell Truman Lake in Warsaw. 

Bothwell has no more available appointments for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and will not be ordering more supply at this time.

People may walk in at any Bothwell vaccine event, however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app. There is no charge for the vaccine.

COVID-19 testing is available at the Bothwell Walk In Clinic located on the first floor of the Healing Arts Center. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported a seven-day total of 10,990 confirmed cases for an average of 1,570 per day. There were a total of 18 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Missouri during the last seven days, representing an average of three deaths per day. There were a total of 83,916 vaccinations, representing an average of 11,988 per day.
