Pettis County continues COVID, flu vaccines

Pettis County added 96 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 7,506, according to the Pettis County Health Center. 

“The (Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services) website is reporting Pettis County has a positivity rate of 7.6% for the past seven days, which is a decrease from 8.8% for the last week with PCR testing,” the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing stated on Monday.  “The locally calculated positivity rate for the month of October is 8.56% This week there were 606 PCR tests and 353 antigen tests for a total of 959. Last week there were 809 tests.”

According to the Pettis County Health Center, from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, the groups with the highest number of new cases were 13-18-year-olds with 16 and 5-12-year-olds with 10. There were 26 individuals birth to 18 with positive cases reported in the week time period. Since July 1, 22.4% of total cases are in individuals 0-18 years of age.

“The vaccine breakthrough rates for the week of Nov. 1-7 is 11 out of 91 or 12.1% or 87.9% not vaccinated,” the briefing said. “There were four cases in April and three cases in February. There were no positive cases in partially vaccinated individuals.”

As of Friday, there were 941 hospitalized in Missouri as compared to 1,047 hospitalized with COVID last week. There are 221 people in ICU and 134 on ventilators as compared to 262 people in ICU and 177 on ventilators last week.

The DHSS website reports 104 deaths in Pettis County, which is the same as last week.

There are three individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to three last week. There is one patient on a ventilator who is not vaccinated.

Approximately 42.8% of the population of Pettis County residents have started vaccination.   According to the state website, 18,101 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 16,156 are considered fully vaccinated, which is approximately 38.2% of the population. This is a decrease from last week and is a known data problem that is being addressed at DHSS.  Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 55.4% have started vaccination and 49.5% fully vaccinated. The state is reporting 67.6% of the population over 18 has started and 60.3% are fully vaccinated. For Pettis County, 54.1% of the population over 18 have started vaccination (17,252) and 48.4% (15.446) are fully vaccinated. According to the DHSS website, 24.3% (847) of 12-17-year-olds have started vaccination and 20.3% (709) are fully vaccinated. For the over 65 age group, 74.9% (5,425) have started vaccination and 67.9% (4,920) are considered fully vaccinated.

The majority of doses of vaccine given last week continue to be third or booster doses of Pfizer. 

Vaccines are available at AFC Urgent Care, some local pharmacies, at many community events as well as Katy Trail Community Health, Bothwell Regional Health Center and Pettis County Health Center. All vaccines are free.

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays. First doses are available as well as second doses and third/booster doses.

Booster doses of Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available for designated individuals, particularly those 65 years of age or older. A full list of eligible individuals is available online and by calling the Health Center.

The Pfizer vaccine has been approved for children 5-11 years of age. Parents who have questions should check with their child’s health care provider to receive answers about the vaccine and see if the vaccine is available at the health care provider’s office and right for their child. The Health Center will announce when we receive the vaccine to begin vaccinating younger children.

Following the DHSS updated standing order that was issued Nov. 3, Bothwell is now administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children aged 5 to 11.

People who want the vaccine for their child in that age group can make appointments at Bothwell TLC Pediatrics from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday by calling 660-829-5852.

Bothwell provides monoclonal antibody infusion treatment for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and who have had onset of symptoms within the last 10 days. Monoclonal antibody infusion can help the body fight off COVID-19 and reduce the risk of severe illness or hospitalization.

The infusion treatment is administered on the hospital’s second floor from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The medication is free, and an administration fee will be charged. 

COVID-19 testing is offered at Bothwell Walk-In Clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. People must register for a testing appointment by calling 660-827-7900. 

This week’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic is from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at Bothwell Health Center-Truman Lake in Warsaw. People may walk in; however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal.

Katy Trail is offering Pfizer vaccine at its Sedalia location for both adults and children. Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson are available at all community events hosted by Katy Trail.
