Pettis County reports another 114 COVID cases

As of Sept. 27, there are a total of 7,056 cases as compared to 6,942 cases reported on Sept. 20, according to the Pettis County Health Center. 

This is an increase of 114 cases in the past week and 247 cases in the past two weeks, according to the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing issued Monday. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website is reporting Pettis County has a positivity rate of 11.1% for the past seven days, which is an increase from 10.7% for the last week with PCR testing. This week there were 566 PCR tests and 338 antigen tests for a total of 904. Last week there were 1,190 tests.

For Sept.17-23, the health center reported the groups with the highest number of new cases were 35-39-year-olds and 13-18-year-olds with 13 each followed by 19-24-year-olds and 30-34-year-olds with 12 each. There were 25 individuals birth to 18 with positive cases reported. 

Since July 1, 21.22% or 378 of total cases are in individuals 0-18 years of age.

For Sept. 19-26, there were 110 positive tests reported and 12 were fully vaccinated for a breakthrough rate of 10.9%, which leaves an unvaccinated rate of 89.1%. Most of the breakthrough cases received the Pfizer vaccine. The month of last vaccination for the highest number of cases was April with four followed by February with two. 

As of Friday, there were 1,543 hospitalized in Missouri as compared to 1,750 hospitalized with COVID last week. There are 405 people in ICU and 263 on ventilators as compared to 439 people in ICU and 276 on ventilators last week.

The briefing states that a recent report from DHSS indicated a new spike in the Sedalia Central and North sewer shed and the presence of the Delta variant in all Sedalia sewer sheds. The most recent data indicated 100% of all samples are Delta.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all individuals should wear a face mask in indoor public spaces. Face masks are required in hospitals, clinics, congregate care settings, airplanes, trains and buses, according to CDC guidance.  

There are 21 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to 15 last week. The age range is 30-94. There are four patients on a ventilator as compared to two last week. None were vaccinated.

The DHSS website reports 96 deaths in Pettis County, up from 94 last week.

Approximately 40.8% of the population of Pettis County residents have started vaccination.   According to the state website, 17,276 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 15,285 are considered fully vaccinated, which is approximately 36.1% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 53.5% who have started vaccination and 47.5% who are fully vaccinated. The state is reporting 64.8% of the population over 18 has started and 57.7% are fully vaccinated.

This week 397 doses of vaccine were given to Pettis County residents compared to 488 doses last week. Vaccines are available at AFC Urgent Care, some local pharmacies, at many community events as well as Katy Trail Community Health, Bothwell and Pettis County Health Center. All vaccines are free.

Pettis County Health Center has regular walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays. First doses are available as well as second doses. Third doses are available for those who meet the criteria for a weakened immune system.

According to the briefing, Bothwell has not yet received a revised standing order from the DHSS that allows it to administer a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster for certain populations. When it receives the order, it is prepared to administer booster doses to those who will be eligible, which includes people aged 65 and older, have a job that increases their risk of infection or are at high risk of severe COVID-19.

Booster doses will be available at weekly clinics at Bothwell Healing Arts Center, by walking in at Bothwell Walk In Clinic, and by appointment at Bothwell Family Medicine Associates, Bothwell Family Health, Bothwell OB/GYN Associates, Bothwell Internal Medicine, and Bothwell TLC Pediatrics. This year’s flu vaccine will be available at all COVID-19 vaccine clinics as well. All flu vaccines are quadrivalent (four-component), meaning they are designed to protect against four different flu viruses, and flu vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines can be given at the same time.

This week’s Pfizer vaccine clinic is from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Bothwell Healing Arts Center, second floor, for people age 12 and up.

People may walk in; however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app. 

The state-run Monoclonal Antibody Infusion Center located on the hospital’s third floor continues to offer treatment for people with a positive COVID-19 result and who have had onset of symptoms within the last 10 days. People may call the center’s referral number at 660-829-6647 to be screened for potential treatment that can prevent severe illness and hospitalization. There is no cost for this treatment. People who have had a high-risk exposure to a COVID-19 positive person should speak with their provider about receiving treatment since they may also be eligible.  

Bothwell offers drive-thru COVID-19 testing at its Healing Arts Center at 3700 W. 10th St. in Sedalia. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. People must register before arriving at the testing location by calling 660.827.7900. Current Bothwell patients may register by calling or scheduling their own Covid-19 testing appointment in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app. 

Only standard PCR tests will be given in drive-thru testing. People with COVID symptoms may see a provider in the Walk In Clinic to see if a rapid test is recommended. People should remain in their car and call 660-827-7900.

Katy Trail Community Health is offering free vaccine and free testing at its Sedalia Site, 821 Westwood Drive. Vaccine is also available at locations in Warsaw, Versailles, and Marshall.
