Pettis County sees another triple-digit case increase

Pettis County added 552 cases of COVID-19 on Monday for a total of 11,142, according to the Pettis County Health Center.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website reports Pettis County has a positivity rate of 35.1% for the past seven days, which is a decrease from 39.4% for the previous week with PCR testing. The case count per 100,000 for the past seven days is 997/100,000, which makes Pettis County the 12th highest case rate county in the state. Henry County is first.  

According to the Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force briefing issued Monday, this week there were 1,265 PCR tests and 705 antigen tests for a total of 1,970. Last week there were 2,582 tests. At this time, the counts do not include home test results. Locally calculated data indicates the positivity rate for Jan. 15-21 was 35.92% with a rate of 1,804/100,000. 

The Health Center continues to not be able to call everyone within five days of testing, so people should follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

The case counts by age will be posted on the Pettis County Health Center Facebook page and website.

The vaccine breakthrough for the week ending Jan. 30 is 179 out of 543 cases counted for a breakthrough rate of 32.9% with 67.1% being unvaccinated. 

Influenza cases continue to increase. There are more than 500 cases for the season thus far.  

As of Friday, there were 3,386 hospitalized in Missouri with COVID as compared to 3,610 hospitalized with COVID last week. There are 668 people in ICU as compared to 681 people in ICU last week.

The briefing states there are 22 individuals hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center as compared to 22 last week; 76% of the patients were not vaccinated. There are three patients on a ventilator, all unvaccinated.  

The DHSS website reports 114 deaths in Pettis County with a confirmed PCR test and 21 deaths with a positive antigen test. This is an increase of two since last week. Through Jan. 22, there have been 10 deaths of Pettis County residents related to COVID.

According to the briefing, approximately 46.7% of Pettis County residents have started vaccination. According to the state website, 19,780 Pettis County residents have started vaccination and 17,608 have had at least two doses, which is approximately 41.6% of the population. Pettis County is falling behind the state rate of 62.6% who have started vaccination and 55.3% have received at least two doses. The state is reporting 73.3% of the population over 18 has started and 65.1% have received at least two doses. For Pettis County, 58.2% of the population 18 and older have started vaccination (18,576) and 52.1% (16,33) have received at least two doses. 

According to the DHSS website, 15.9% (1,201) of 5-17-year-olds have started vaccination and 12.9% (974) have received two doses. For the 65 and older age group, 79.4% (5,750) have started vaccination and 72.3 % (5,239) have received at least two doses. There were 317 Pettis County residents who received a vaccine last week.  

The vaccine is available for everyone 5 years of age and older. Booster doses given five months after the last dose for Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or two months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are available for those 12 years and older through Pettis County Health Center, Katy Trail Community Health and Bothwell Regional Health Center. All vaccines are free.   

Pettis County Health Center provides vaccines for homebound individuals. Call 660-827-1130 to make arrangements. 

Pettis County Health Center has walk-in clinics from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays. Patients should call before coming to the Thursday and Friday clinics this week as the Health Center may be closed due to snow.

According to information from Bothwell in the briefing, the wait time for results from standard PCR COVID-19 tests has been extended to four or five days because it continues to send these tests to an external lab due to widespread supply shortages. Rapid antigen tests are being used when patients need to be seen by a provider for symptoms at the Bothwell Walk In clinic or at other clinics.

This week’s Bothwell COVID-19 vaccine clinics for the two-dose primary series and booster doses are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, (Pfizer) and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 (Moderna) at Bothwell Healing Arts Center on the second floor. People may walk in; however, appointments are encouraged by calling 660-829-8888 or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app.

Katy Trail Community Health is providing Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines to community members from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at 816 Westwood Drive. Visit www.katyhealth.org to schedule your vaccine. The KTCH acute care clinic is open at 821 Westwood Drive for residents to be tested and seen by a clinician if necessary. Testing appointments are also available online. It is open Monday through Saturday.
