Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Phillips, of Marshall, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 17.
Verna Authorene Wilson and Edgar Alan Phillips were married at the First Baptist Church of Buffalo, Oklahoma, on June 17, 1961.
The couple were teachers in Independence and in Marshall and retired a number of years ago. Mr. Phillips worked as a substitute mail carrier for approximately nine years in addition to farming in Marshall and Florence. Since full retirement, Mr. Phillips has restored some tractors and a pickup and has done some carpentry and maintenance projects.
Mrs. Phillips worked as an interim librarian at Marshall Public Library for several years and was instrumental in starting the Marshall Writer’s Guild.
The couple has three children, Evan Alan Phillips, of Leawood, Kansas, Charles Wilson Phillips, of Overland Park, Kansas, and James Edga Phillips, of Santa Maria, California; and six grandchildren.
