This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

April 20

7:35 p.m.: Travis D. Martin, 31, of the 400 block of Welch Court, was arrested after officers conducted a vehicle check on the 3500 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Kansas City and a passenger was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle found controlled pills and marijuana charges. Martin was charged with tampering with a utility meter, possession of a synthetic narcotic, and possession of marijuana. Charges are also being requested of the driver who was identified but not located.

10:46 p.m.: John W. Sant, 40, of the 1200 block of South Park Avenue, was arrested after officers initiated a traffic stop for a moving violation. The occupants were identified and the driver was discovered to have a revoked driving status and was arrested for the offense. Sant was transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and released pending a state charge of driving while revoked. 

11:38 a.m.: Zacharia Cameron Sparks, 31, of the 7000 block of Dandelion Road, was arrested after officers responded to the 1400 block of South Limit Avenue for a report of theft. Contact was made with a female subject who reported a male had gone into the store and stole some items from inside. The suspect was identified and charges were submitted. 

April 21

1:11 a.m.: Travis D. Martin, 31, of the 400 block of Welch Court, was arrested after a traffic stop for speeding on West 16th Street. After detecting the odor of marijuana, the officer conducted a search and located a large knife, a small amount of marijuana, and eight pills identified as Clonazepam-Schedule 4 controlled substances. Martin was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold. Charges of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of marijuana are being sought.

Incidents

April 19

6:32 p.m.: An officer took a report in the SPD lobby in reference to an attempted theft. The complainant, who works for a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard, said that on April 18 a male and female walked into the store and split up. The male placed several items in the cart and passed all the points of sale before being stopped by management. The suspect then walked off the property leaving the items he was trying to steal. No arrest has been made at this time.

11:48 a.m.: A report was taken in the SPD lobby regarding fraudulent use of a debit device and stealing. The amount of money stolen was $100.97. A suspect is known at this time and charges have been submitted to the Pettis County prosecutor.

April 20

6:31 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of East Johnson Street for a report of a hit-and-run accident. Upon arrival, the victim stated that between 10:30 p.m. April 19 and 6 a.m. April 20, someone ran into his vehicle that was parked on East Johnson Street. The suspect left the scene of the accident and failed to report it to the victim or law enforcement.

1:59 p.m.: Officers made contact with a female subject who reported a cell phone was stolen in the 1700 block of West Broadway Boulevard by an unknown suspect. 

10:51 a.m.: Officers make contact with a female subject in the 1500 block of West Broadway Boulevard who wanted to make an identity theft report. She stated she was notified that someone had applied for unemployment benefits using her information.

April 20

9 a.m.: A deputy was dispatched to the area of 135 Highway and JJ Highway on a report of a 2006 Chevy Cobalt on its side with all four tires missing. The deputy noticed the car had damage to the dash and the radio and catalytic converter were missing as well.

April 18

2:36 a.m.: Kayla M. McDonald, 20, of Bates City, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated, minor in possession, and failure to obey a traffic control device. She was transported to the Warrensburg Police Department and released.

April 20

11:06 p.m.: Sidney E. McLaughlin, 26, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, was arrested in Johnson County for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. She was transported to the Warrensburg Police Department and released.
