This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

April 1

10:17 p.m.: Patricia K. Ryan, 25, of Independence, was arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop near South Grand Avenue and La Grande Drive for a moving violation. A passenger in the vehicle was found in possession of a stolen handgun. Ryan was also a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm. She was charged with unlawful possession of a concealable weapon, receiving stolen property, and drug violation/marijuana.

April 2

9:53 a.m.: Jeremy A. McDaniel, 30, of the 600 block of East Sixth Street, was arrested after a traffic stop in the 3200 block of South Limit Avenue. McDaniel was driving with a suspended license, was arrested, and transported to the Pettis County Jail. McDaniel was found in possession of methamphetamine and was charged with driving with a suspended/revoked license, drug violation possession and possession of a controlled substance in the county jail.

3:51 p.m.: Michall Ray Cowherd, 31, of the 500 block of West Seventh Street, was arrested after officers were dispatched in reference to a subject possibly throwing hammers around the apartment. Officers were notified that the subject in question had three warrants for parole violations and another for a traffic infraction. Cowherd was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail for a warrant and was placed on a 24-hour hold. Additional charges are also being requested for resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, introducing a controlled substance into the county jail, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. 

9:24 p.m.: Kimberly D. Lyman, 39, of the 1100 block of South Harding Avenue, was arrested after officers responded for a report of a domestic disturbance. It was found that Lyman initiated physical contact with a person known to her and the victim sustained minor injuries. Lyman was arrested for domestic assault and transported to the Pettis County Jail where she was placed on a 24-hour hold pending the charge.

April 3

12:35 a.m.: Miguel A. Ortega-Bamaca, 22, of the 300 block of East Fourth Street, was arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Stewart Avenue for speeding. The driver was arrested for felony no driver's license and was transported to Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold while charges were being requested.

2:12 a.m.: Andrew Justin Max Lange, 21, of the 2800 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested after a vehicle stop in the 900 block of East Third Street for moving violations. It was found Lange was impaired by drugs and was arrested for driving while intoxicated (drugs). He was transported to the Pettis County Jail, booked, and released to a sober person. 

5:36 p.m.: Ambar Dawn Portillo Ortega, 29, of Sedalia, was arrested after police stopped a vehicle for no registration. Due to the operator’s behavior, consent to search the vehicle was requested. The operator admitted illegal drugs were inside the vehicle and a search was completed. Items related to drug activity were located and seized. Portillo Ortega was arrested without incident and transported to the Pettis County Jail for processing. She was booked and released. Charges are being sought through the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office.

7:27 p.m.: Mark R. Boydston, 59, of Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested after a traffic stop at West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard for a vehicle going the wrong way. Boydston was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license and was transported to the SPD where he was processed and released. 

7:44 p.m.: Gavin C. Bradford, 34, at the 1300 block of South Osage Avenue, was arrested after an officer performed a traffic stop on a blue Suburban with the license plates from a Pontiac in the area of West 16th Street and South Grand Avenue. Bradford had a suspended license and was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and released.

9 p.m.: Devin Scott Heinen, 18, of the 31000 block of Tebo Road, was arrested after a vehicle stop in the area of South Limit Avenue and West 16th Street for a headlight out. It was determined that Heinen was impaired by drugs. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending release to a sober person.

9:04 p.m.: Jonathan E. Jamison, 26, of Sedalia, was arrested after officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Heck Avenue for possible trespassing. While speaking with subjects, a glass methamphetamine pipe was observed and Jamison was arrested. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending the filing of state charges. 

April 4

3:30 a.m.: Tristan M. Smith, 20, and Gary L. Winslow, 61, both of La Monte, were cited after an officer performed a traffic stop on a Mercury van that had defective equipment in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and Thompson Boulevard. Investigation during the stop revealed Winslow was in possession of marijuana-related paraphernalia while Smith was in possession of marijuana. Each received a Sedalia municipal court summons.

4:23 a.m.: Jaden David Mathis, 17, of the 300 block of East Boonville Street, was arrested after officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Park Avenue for a report of a disturbance. The victim stated Mathis had hit him over the head with an air-fryer. The suspect was later located in the 400 block of East Boonville Street and arrested for third-degree domestic assault. Mathis was placed on a 24-hour hold at the Pettis County Jail pending the filing of charges. 

April 5

1:15 a.m.: Megan E. Stephens, 27, of Green Ridge, was cited after officers initiated a traffic stop for a motor vehicle with expired registration. An officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which was subsequently searched. Marijuana paraphernalia and marijuana joints were found. A city summons was issued to Stevens for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Incidents 

April 1

9:30 p.m.: An officer took a report in the SPD lobby in reference to a missing person. An employee of New Haven said one of the residents did not return home after school and was last seen leaving the bus stop. The juvenile has not been located at this time.

April 2

1:15 a.m.: Officers responded to the 100 block of West Main Street in reference to property damage. The complainant stated her tires had been cut. A suspect has been identified and contacted but refused to provide a statement.

9:30 a.m.: A victim contacted the SPD regarding a break-in that occurred between March 9 and March 12 in the 1100 block of East 13th Street. A suspect had broken a $2,000 handmade door and stolen several items with a combined value of $610. The victim stated they would like to pursue charges.

2:59 p.m.: A victim reported a theft from his residence in the 400 block of East Seventh Street. A known person had stolen $400 while at the residence. The suspect’s location isn't known and the case is being sent to the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office. 

7:16 p.m.: An officer responded to the 200 block of West Sixth Street in reference to a burglary that had recently occurred. The victim stated a PS4 valued at $200 was stolen. Suspect information was gathered. 

9:57 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 24000 block of Spring Fork Road for a vehicle fire. The vehicle was not occupied and the fire is being investigated.

10:44 p.m.: Officers took a report of a vehicle damaged in the 1300 Block of South Grand Avenue. The victim returned from dinner to find the driver’s side lock of the vehicle had been damaged.

April 4

8:51 p.m.: Officers responded to the 200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to an assault that had just occurred. An injured victim was found in a parking lot. The suspect was known to the victim. No contact has been made with the suspect at this time, but charges for third-degree assault will be sent to the prosecutor for review.

10:25 p.m.: An officer took a report of a stolen vehicle in the SPD lobby. The victim reported that a subject known to her was given the red 1998 Ford Expedition to make repairs but has refused to return the vehicle. The vehicle was valued at $4,000.

Incidents

April 3

12:15 a.m.: Deputies investigated an assault that occurred in the 28000 block of Highway U in Sedalia. The investigation is ongoing.

April 4

6:04 p.m.: Deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Elsie Drive on a report of a large disturbance. Several witnesses stated a male and female were fighting in the front yard and the female had assaulted a second female. It was discovered the male and female were brother and sister and the second female was the mother. The male and female were taken into custody for domestic assault and are being held pending the filing of charges.

April 2

10:04 p.m.: Devin M. Coke, 22, of Warsaw, was arrested in Benton County for resisting arrest, a felony warrant out of Benton County, and registration violation. 

9:08 p.m.: Jason B. Robertson, 42, of Warsaw, was arrested in Benton County for a felony warrant out of Benton County, felony possession of a controlled substance, no seat belt, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

10:57 p.m.: Ryan P. Merrill, 35, of Calhoun, was arrested in Henry County for driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and speeding. 

April 3

12:43 a.m.: Brittani L. Petree, 34, of Saint Robert, was arrested in Morgan County for driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving, no insurance, and driving with a revoked license. 

8:03 p.m.: Trenton A. Frizzell, 19, of Bates City, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and speeding. 

April 4

12:50 a.m.: Crystal L. Grounds, 33, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in a crash.
