This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 3

3:58 p.m.: Hector R. Martinez-Diaz, 30, of the 2600 block of Bristol Lane, was arrested after a traffic stop at the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and South Montgomery Avenue. The suspect had no valid driver's license nor insurance and was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. He was booked and released.

Aug. 7

1:39 a.m.: Nathan J. Elmlinger, 33, of the 26000 block of Goodwill Chapel Road, was arrested after officers conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Carr Avenue for speeding. The driver was arrested and transported to the SPD for driving while intoxicated.

2:27 a.m.: Noah Michael Killion, 35, of Houstonia, was arrested after a truck was stopped in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and Thompson Boulevard for several moving violations. It was determined the driver was intoxicated and he was placed under arrest, transported to the SPD, and released to a sober person with a municipal citation for driving while intoxicated. 

2:48 p.m.: Steven A. Henderson, 58, of Warsaw, was arrested after a traffic stop for a vehicle with a defective brake light near East 10th Street and South Massachusetts Avenue. The driver had a suspended Missouri driver's license and was required to have an ignition interlock device but had no such device installed. He was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and released.

7:15 a.m.: Miguel Rubio Marcos, 35, of the 2900 block of South Washington Avenue, was arrested after officers responded to the 1600 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of someone passed out in their vehicle. The driver had a suspended driving status and was placed under arrest for driving while suspended. While searching the vehicle, a glass pipe with residue was located. The subject was transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold for driving with a revoked license, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

8:13 p.m.: Jonathan Dwayne Pruitt, 28, of the 300 block of West Seventh Street, was issued a summons after a traffic stop for a vehicle with no visible front plate in the area of West 16th Street and South Vermont Avenue. The driver was in possession of marijuana for which he received a Sedalia Municipal citation. 

Aug. 8

12:43 a.m.: Oscar Diaz Padilla Jr., 23, of Sedalia, was arrested after officers initiated an investigative traffic stop on a car whose registered owner's driver’s license was suspended near East Broadway Boulevard and South Massachusetts Avenue. Officers smelled the odor of marijuana and searched the car. Marijuana was found and seized. The driver was arrested and transported to the SPD where he was issued two City tickets, one for driving with a suspended driver's license and the other for possession of marijuana. 

2:02 a.m.: Meldon Mickey, 38, of the 500 block of East 16th Street, was arrested after a van was stopped in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard for several moving violations. It was determined the driver was intoxicated and driving with a revoked license. He was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license, transported to the SPD, and then to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 12-hour protective custody hold. 

2:50 p.m.: Michael L. Sutherland, 54, of Knob Noster, was arrested after officers responded to the 2900 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a motor vehicle crash in front of Bandana’s BBQ. When officers arrived, a driver of a vehicle involved in the crash appeared to be impaired. Officers conducted an investigation and the driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of a weapon. 

9:45 p.m.: Alfredo Carlos, 24, of the 1500 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested after a vehicle stop for speeding near Clarendon Road and Southwest Boulevard. An investigation at the scene revealed the driver had been driving while intoxicated. Carlos also had a child in the back seat of the vehicle. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated, speeding and endangering the welfare of a child. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail, booked and released.

Incidents

Aug. 3

10:27 a.m.: An officer took a report in the SPD lobby of theft of $200 by unauthorized charges from the victim's bank account. Camera footage from the ATM was reviewed and the suspect has been identified. Charges of fraudulent use of a debit device and stealing are being requested. 

12:07 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the area of West 16th Street and South State Fair Boulevard for a report of a two-vehicle accident. One of the vehicles had left the scene and the driver of the other vehicle stated that a white Ford extended cab pickup struck his trailer and left without making contact. The suspect vehicle had damage on the front driver’s side. The estimated amount of damage was $500. At the time of the report, the suspect driver had not been located.

2:26 p.m.: Officers responded to the area of North Washington Avenue and East Pettis Street for a traffic complaint. They made contact with a caller who stated someone she knew attempted to run her off the roadway and was following too close. An investigation was completed and charges are being sought against the suspect.

4:20 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to Lewis Circle regarding a report of property damage. Someone had marked a vehicle using a permanent marker resulting in the vehicle needing to be repainted at the cost of $3,000. There is no suspect information available at this time.

8:30 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1700 block of South Ohio Avenue in reference to a property damage incident. The victim stated two tires on her vehicle were slashed. The victim valued the tires at $250. A suspect was identified but has not been contacted.

Aug. 6

7:34 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 3000 block of West 10th Street for a report of property damage. The victim stated that overnight someone put small scratches along both driver and passenger sides of her vehicle with an estimated amount of damage at $500. There are no suspects at this time.

10:12 a.m.: A victim reported his push lawnmower was stolen in the 300 block of East Saline Street. The mower was valued at $200. At the time of the report, there is no suspect information. 

11:10 a.m.:  A complainant reported her vehicle struck by another vehicle while parked in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard. The striking vehicle left the scene and made no effort to report the collision. At the time of the report, there was no suspect information.

11:10 a.m.: An officer responded to the 500 block of North Stewart Avenue in reference to vehicle damage. The victim reported that sometime overnight someone had damaged the front windshield of her 2001 Ford F150. There are no suspects at this time. 

1:35 p.m.: A complainant reported her daughter is missing/a runaway from the 400 block of East 13th Street. At the time of the report, the missing/runaway’s whereabouts aren't known. She was entered into a statewide database as missing. 

6:24 p.m.: Officers responded to the 2900 block of Southwest Boulevard for a report of theft. The victim reported that someone stole his pistol out of his truck sometime in the last two days. The gun was valued at $350.

11:09 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 2500 block of Southwest Boulevard for a theft. The caller stated that two subjects just stole two bicycles from in front of their residence.

Aug. 7

9:45 a.m.: A business in the 1600 block of East Broadway Boulevard reported a vehicle stolen from the lot overnight. There was no suspect information.

5:32 p.m.: An officer responded to the 3000 block of Wing Avenue for a report of a stolen vehicle. The caller reported that a red 2020 Honda motorcycle was stolen from her driveway during the previous evening. The vehicle was valued at $4,900. Shortly after taking the report, the complaint found the vehicle abandoned between neighboring houses. The motorcycle only had minor damage to the ignition. 

6:54 p.m.: An officer took a report of theft in the SPD lobby. The victim reported that between July 29 and Aug. 4 someone stole the handheld portion of her ignition interlock device from her vehicle. It was valued at $1,500. 

7:55 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a business in the 3100 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a disturbance. Several subjects were involved in a verbal argument. The disturbance remained verbal and both parties separated without further incident.

Aug. 8

2:18 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of North Grand Avenue for a report of theft. The victim stated sometime the previous day someone forced their way into his camper and stole $280 worth of tools. One suspect had been named at the time of the report but the suspect has not been located.

11:21 p.m.: Officers conducted an investigative vehicle stop at 10th Street and Normandy Avenue. A consent search located a vape pen containing THC. The vape pen was seized for destruction. 

Aug. 9

12:36 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of West Second Street in reference to a burglary. The residents were on vacation and when they returned they noticed their property was broken into and property was missing. Property inside the home was also damaged.

2:30 a.m.: An officer responded to the 1500 block of South Missouri Avenue in reference to a theft. The victim stated his bike was stolen sometime during the day on Aug. 8. A suspect’s name was given, but they have not been contacted at this time.

Arrests

Aug. 7

12:23 a.m.: Eric Swigert was arrested after a traffic stop in the area of U.S. 50 and Quincy Avenue in Sedalia. Swigert was arrested for felony driving with a revoked license.

8:49 p.m.: Robert William Smith was arrested after a traffic stop on Ingram Avenue. It was revealed Smith had an active warrant out of Boone County for harassment and was found to be in possession of a crystal substance and paraphernalia. He was transported to the Pettis County jail and placed on a 24-hour hold for charges of endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled substance.

Incidents

Aug. 6

10:57 a.m.: Deputies took a report for theft of items from a vehicle in the 33000 block of Overstreet Road in Pettis County. There were no leads or suspects at the time of the report.

Arrests

Aug. 6

Ashley N. Weider, 25, of Jefferson City, was arrested in Saline County for felony possession of a controlled substance-marijuana. She was transported to the Saline County Jail and released. 

Aug. 7

4:02 p.m.: James P. Becker, 55, of Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested in Moniteau County for driving while intoxicated, passing a vehicle with approaching traffic, and no insurance. He was transported to the Moniteau County Jail and released.

7:56 p.m.: Jeremy W. Holt, 48, of Clinton, was arrested in Benton County for felony violation of sex offender restrictions. He was transported to the Benton County Jail and released
