This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 7

2:25 a.m.: Kelsey E. Van Vickle, 24, of the 500 block of 36th Street, was arrested for driving while intoxicated-alcohol-as a prior offender at East Broadway Boulevard and South Marvin Avenue. An office conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with an expired registration failing to maintain its lane. During the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Van Vickle was transported to the SPD, where she provided a breath sample that showed her BAC above 0.08. She was then transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was booked and placed on a 12-hour hold. A request for the charge of DWI-prior offender has been submitted to the prosecutor.

Aug. 8

9:44 p.m.: Kimberly L. Chavez, 35, of the 300 block of West Third Street, was arrested for driving while intoxicated at West Cooper Street and North Osage Avenue. An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had run a stop light and during the investigation, it was determined Chavez was intoxicated. She was transported to the SPD, where she provided a breath sample. She was issued a summons for DWI and released to a sober driver.

Aug. 9

10:29 p.m.: Melvin E. Osburn, 24, was arrested on charges of third-degree domestic assault in the 900 block of Kentucky Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the area in reference to a disturbance. When they arrived on scene, the suspect left out the back door, although another officer made contact with him a block away. The victim stated during a verbal argument, the suspect hit her in the face with an open hand. Osburn was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hold.

3:22 p.m.: James McMillin, 39, was arrested at West Seventh Street and South Osage Avenue on charges of first-degree sexual misconduct and harassment to frighten or disturb another person. An officer was dispatched to the area for a report of a lewd act. On arrival, the officer made contact with the suspect, who was in the process of a sexual act on himself. McMillin, who was intoxicated, was placed on a 24-hold and charges are being sought.

Incidents

Aug. 4

2:34 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a burglary report in the SPD lobby. The victim said in the early hours of Aug. 4, someone broke into his residence and stole a PlayStation 4 and two controllers.  

Aug. 9

4:48 p.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 1100 block of South Limit in reference to a hit-and-run accident. The victim stated she was involved in a collision on the roadway with a semi-truck and that it had left northbound on Limit Avenue. At the time of the report, the truck had not been identified.
