This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 10

12:06 p.m.: Mark A. Brookfelt, 28, of Tipton, was arrested after an officer was dispatched to a business in the 4400 block of Wisconsin Avenue for a report of stealing. Staff members stated they observed Brookfelt take $105 worth of merchandise and attempt to leave without paying. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending a charge of second-degree burglary. 

7:20 p.m.: Craig Bernard Cravens, 74, of the 600 block of Washington Avenue, was arrested after officers were dispatched to Bothwell Regional Health Center in reference to an assault report. Officers met with the victim and gathered details about the incident. Cravens was located and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending charges of fourth-degree domestic assault. 

Incidents

Aug. 7

12:02 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of a hit-and-run accident. The owner of the parked vehicle stated she was shopping in the store and was notified by an employee that somebody backed into a vehicle and left. There was visible damage to the rear bumper of the parked vehicle. The witness was able to give officers a photograph of the vehicle that hit the woman’s car.

Aug. 10

11:34 a.m.: An officer was referred a case by the Department of Social Services Children's Division in regard to alleged sexual abuse in the 32000 block of Ringen School Road in Smithton. The case was found to be outside Sedalia’s jurisdiction and an assist agency report was completed.

2:03 p.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of a theft. A complainant stated that a male suspect entered the store, selected $814 in merchandise, then attempted to leave without paying. The suspect was identified and charges were submitted to the prosecutor.

Arrests

Aug. 9

1:05 p.m.: Richard D. Card was arrested after deputies observed him driving a lawnmower down Fourth Street. A check of his driver's license showed it had a revoked driver's status. Card was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold for felony driving with revoked driver's license.
