This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

May 27

8:55 p.m.: Martin Zapote, 30, of the 800 block of South Quincy Avenue, was arrested after a traffic stop in the area of South Quincy Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard for moving violations and suspicion of driving while intoxicated. It was determined the driver was intoxicated and was driving on a suspended Arkansas license. He was transported to the police department and the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of felony driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

10:17 p.m.: Rodrick Renato Vose, 33, of the 400 block of West Seventh Street, was arrested after police conducted a traffic stop on a car for continuously emitting its reverse lights while in the forward motion. It was determined the driver was intoxicated by drugs and in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to a hospital and the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked for driving while intoxicated - drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released.

May 28

1:39 a.m.: Samantha Sue Spencer, 28, of the 1700 block of West Fourth Street, was arrested after a vehicle stop in the area of East Sixth Street and South Ohio Avenue for failure to signal and failure to stop prior to the stop line. It was determined Spencer was intoxicated and she was transported to SPD she was processed, fingerprinted, and released to a sober person with citations for driving while intoxicated and failure to use a turn signal.

2:58 p.m.: Marsha Welsh, 51, of Olathe, Kansas, was arrested after a vehicle stop near the intersection of West Main Street and South State Fair Boulevard for a moving violation. The driver was found in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine and was arrested.

6:43 p.m.: Ernest Brown, 40, of the 1000 block of South Summit Avenue, was arrested after a vehicle stop in the area of East 13th Street and South Montgomery Avenue for improper and expired registration. The original driver, who had a revoked driver’s license, jumped in the backseat and an intoxicated passenger jumped into the driver's seat, gaining physical control of the car. The original driver was arrested for driving with a revoked license and failure to comply with an ignition interlock device. The second driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

May 30

8:26 a.m.: David D. Williams, 26, of the 900 block of East 13th Street, was arrested after officers conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Grand Avenue. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and no insurance and was released on scene with the city summons.

Incidents

May 27

7:42 p.m.: An officer responded to Katy Park, 2200 S. Grand Ave., for a theft report. The victim reported her vehicle window was broken out and her purse was stolen. Multiple credit/debit cards were taken and were fraudulently used numerous times in Sedalia, La Monte and Warrensburg prior to being canceled. The multijurisdictional investigation is underway.

9:43 a.m.: An officer responded to the 200 block of Scott Joplin Court for a theft report. The victim stated a necklace valued at $5,500 was stolen from her apartment approximately two weeks earlier. At the time of the report, a suspect has not been identified.

May 28 

2:58 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 1400 block of South Limit Avenue for a report of stealing. The victim stated his silver LG Stylo five XL phone, valued at $120, was missing. It cannot be determined if the phone was stolen or if it was lost.

4:51 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the police station lobby to make contact with a subject who wanted to report identity theft. The victim stated that over the past three weeks, someone gained access to their internet account and got their credit card, Social Security, and other information to try and make online purchases. The subject was not able to make any purchases and accounts were deactivated. There are no suspects at this time.

6:59 p.m.: Sedalia Police and Sedalia Fire departments and Pettis County Ambulance District responded to the 200 block of East Jackson Street for an unconscious male subject not breathing. SPD officers arrived and determined the male subject was in opiate overdose and deployed naloxone. SFD and PCAD arrived and took over patient care. The victim eventually started breathing normally and regained consciousness.

May 29

6:09 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a business in the 600 block of East 14th Street for reported property damage. Video footage was provided showing a suspect damaging a window. The caller was able to identify the suspect and officers also could identify the suspect from the video based on dealing with the same suspect earlier in the day. Charges are being requested for first-degree property damage.

7:43 p.m.: Officers responded to East 12th Street and South Center Avenue for a report of a dogfight. When officers arrived a large dog was located in the intersection that had been shot. The involved party's dog was attacked and the owner shot the dog.

May 30

1:11 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3000 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of a fraudulent check. The suspect has yet to be contacted.

7:53 p.m.: Officers responded to the 600 block of North Stuart Avenue in reference to property damage. Officers made contact with complainants and witnesses of paintballs being shot at a residence. A suspect has been identified, but no contact has been made at this time. 

11:30 p.m.: An officer responded to the 500 block of West 22nd Street in reference to an assault that occurred prior to law enforcement's arrival. Officers made contact with the victim who stated he was assaulted at a different location but did not know who the suspect was. The victim was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for his injuries. A suspect has not been located.

11:51 p.m.: Officers responded to the 400 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of someone shooting paintballs at trucks. When officers arrived the suspects had fled the scene.

May 31

12:51 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a business in the 600 block of Industrial Drive in reference to a vehicle theft in progress. The caller described two subjects he had observed trying to mess with the cars. The suspects ran away when the caller arrived. No arrests have been made.

12:45 p.m.: Deputies took a report of a hit-and-run accident that occurred at the intersection of McVey Road and New York Avenue in Pettis County.
