This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

May 12

2:35 p.m.: Derrell Anthony Whitley, 36, of the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue, was arrested after an officer took a theft report from a business in the 1400 block of South Limit Avenue. Whitley stole a speaker from the store and was later contacted in the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue. He returned the speaker and was issued a Sedalia municipal summons.

7:55 p.m.: Anthony Howard Bruce, 49, of Warsaw, was arrested after a vehicle stop for speeding on South Grand Avenue near Clinton Road and West 24th Street. The driver was found to have a suspended driving status, was placed into custody and released on scene with a city summons.

11:35 p.m.: Darien Dwan Douglas, 22, of the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue, was arrested after a traffic stop in the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue for improper lane usage. He was found to have a suspended driver's license and was transported to the police department, booked, and released with a summons to municipal court pending charges for driving while suspended and improper lane usage. 

May 13

2:47 a.m.: Dan W. Paxton, 69, of Smithton, was arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop on a white Ram 1500 for defective license plate lights near the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Barrett Avenue. Paxton was found to have a revoked driving status and was arrested and released on the scene with a city summons for driving with a revoked driver's license. 

Incidents

May 7

8:59 p.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 400 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of a person attempting to pass fraudulent checks. The suspect was not located on scene. 

May 11

1:53 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the police department lobby for a report of theft. The victim stated someone was using her food stamps card number to make multiple orders online. The victim stated that over the last two months, a total of $1,429 had been stolen.

May 12

7:50 a.m.: An officer responded to the 1700 block of West Fourth Street for a report of a lost child. The child had wandered from his house and gotten lost. The child's mother was located and the child was returned to her. 

9:21 a.m.: An officer responded to the 1200 block of South Lafayette Avenue in reference to a burglary. The property owner explained the residence is vacant and said that sometime in the last 24 hours, someone broke a rear window and entered, causing damage to the interior and spray-painting an exterior wall. At the time of the report, a suspect had not been located.

Noon: Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of South Kentucky Avenue for a domestic disturbance. Investigation revealed that a suspect struck the victim with a bottle of Bud Light and then fled the area. The case has been forwarded to the Pettis County Prosecutor's Office for consideration. 

2:29 p.m.: An officer responded to the area of Gate 6 of the Missouri State Fairgrounds on Clarendon Road in reference to a vehicle crash. They found that a vehicle had left the roadway of northbound Clarendon Road and struck the fence. The vehicle had left the scene prior to the officer's arrival but left parts behind. At the time of the report, the suspect had not been identified. 

3:31 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the police department lobby in reference to a wallet found in the 300 block of North Engineer Avenue. The wallet was returned to the owner, but the cash was reported missing.

3:37 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a house in the 900 block of West 16th Street where an unknown subject had damaged a window. 

Pettis County Sheriff's Office

Arrests

May 8

4:20 p.m.: Pavel Kotok, of the 4100 block of McVey Road, was arrested after deputies were dispatched on a welfare check. Deputies are seeking two charges of second-degree domestic assault. 

May 12

2:20 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to Washington Elementary for an assist agency report. The caller, who worked with the Children's Division, stated they were there to investigate possible injuries on a juvenile child at the school. After meeting with the juvenile subject, the incident will be investigated further. 

May 13

7:00 p.m.: Ricky Smith, 36, of Sedalia, was arrested after deputies responded to the 5600 block of South Limit Avenue in Pettis County in reference to a domestic disturbance no longer in progress. Deputies located Smith, who was known to have an active Pettis County warrant. She was subsequently arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail.
