This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

May 13

9:52 p.m.: Malcolm L Briscoe Jr., 30, of the 200 block of South Scott Joplin Court, was arrested after a disturbance. Police arrived and spoke with witnesses and determined the primary aggressor. Briscoe was arrested and transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for a medical evaluation. A request for a charge of fourth-degree domestic assault has been submitted to the prosecutor. 

Incidents

May 3

7:46 p.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot in the 3100 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a license violation. The driver of the vehicle was found in possession of marijuana, a grinder, and a marijuana pipe. 

May 8

12:42 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an improper registration in the area of West Main Street and South Osage Avenue. The driver was informed of the reason for the stop. The license plate was seized and the driver was released. Further information was obtained for the plate that was on the vehicle May 12. A charge of forgery will be submitted to the prosecutor for consideration. 

May 13

8:33 a.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 3900 block of South Limit Avenue in reference to a theft. The owner stated several vehicles on the lot were entered during the overnight hours. One of the vehicles had a stereo stolen out of it. At the time of the report, the suspect has not been identified. 

12:15 a.m.: Officers responded to the 600 block of East 13th Street in reference to a physical domestic. Officers made contact with both parties who suffered minor injuries. The 12-hour log was completed to document the incident 

1:58 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the police station lobby for a report of an incident that involved a minor who lives in Texas. A child abuse hotline was contacted and information collected to pass on to agencies in Texas. 

2:25 p.m.:  A subject came to the SPD lobby to report a theft that occurred in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The complainant stated three people came into the business, grabbed several items, and went to check out. There they scanned items that cost a considerable amount less than the items they left the store with. They have not been identified at this time.

4:56 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1200 block of South Carr Avenue in reference to a theft. The victim stated that sometime between May 11 and May 12 an orange 196cc Coleman mini bike was taken from his property. 

6:17 p.m.: An officer took a report of a stolen vehicle that was last seen near the 3100 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The vehicle was not located and was introduced into NCIC as stolen.

6:54 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to a private property hit-and-run accident that was reported to have occurred in the 100 block of South Prospect Avenue. The incident is under investigation. 

6:58 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a hit-and-run accident. The victim stated his truck was hit while it was parked at 3200 West Broadway Boulevard. There have not been any arrests made at this time.

8:34 p.m.: An officer spoke with a complainant from the 1100 block of East Fifth Street on the phone in reference to a theft. The complainant stated a family member stole a social security check intended for her grandparents.

May 13

Arrests

3:10 p.m.: Jacob E. Masters was arrested after deputies responded to the 400 block of South Ohio Avenue in reference to a subject camping in front of the Pettis County Courthouse. Masters was instructed to leave the property and refused to do so as requested by the deputies. Masters was arrested for first-degree trespassing and taken to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and released.

Arrests

May 13

4:25 p.m.: Christopher R. Daniels, 42, of Holts Summit, was arrested in Morgan County for driving with a revoked driver's license, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway causing an immediate threat of a crash, felony Cole County warrants for failure to appear-possession of a controlled substance, and driving with a revoked driver’s license. Daniels was transported to the Moniteau County Jail.

May 14 

12:24 p.m.: Paul J. McGhaha, 44, of Athens, Alabama, was arrested in Saline County for unlawful possession of a firearm. He was transported to the Saline County Jail and released.
